Audi S3 is performance model that is in U.S. available only in a sedan version. The “S” line is a response to BMW’s “M” division. To battle the rivaling Germans new S3 brings many updates, but some of them will not reach North American market, at least for now. But let’s see what updates does 2017 Audi S3 brings.
2017 Audi S3 – Design
As for design, there is not too much difference from the A3 sedan. But to clearly separate S3 from other model, there are some key design cues that Audi designers have implemented. Single-frame grille with sculptural horizontal and aluminum double blade bars has an S3 badge mounted on the left side. On the front, we have full Audi’s Matrix LED headlights while rear end carries LED rear lights with new Audi’s dynamic turn signals. The rear end also carries quad exhaust pipes. Headlights enable to leave high beams permanently on without worrying of blinding incoming traffic. Since the camera system detects vehicles in front and blocks out needed part of the beam. 2017 Audi S3 comes in two trim levels. Premium Plus and Prestige. A standard set of wheels are 18-inch while optional are 19-inch wheels.
2017 Audi S3 – Tech Features
The interior also brings many updates depending on trim level. Nevertheless, which trim is in question, 2017 Audi S3 comes with 12-way power front seats with 4-way lumbar support. Seats are covered with high-quality leather with contrast stitching with “S” embossing. There is also sport three-spoke steering wheel with “S” emblem and flat bottom. But better features certainly come with Prestige trim. Instead of standard color information display, there is Audi Virtual Cockpit on 14.3-inch display behind the multifunctional steering wheel. On Prestige trim there is also 14-speaker, 705-watt Bang & Olufsen sound system and MMI navigation with voice control.
2017 Audi S3 – Same Engine
For this kind of models, the powertrain is probably the most important asset. The Europe spec gets new 2.0-liter inline-4 turbo engine. It produces 310 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. This engine comes with the seven-speed dual clutch transmission. But the bad news is that this engine won’t come on North American soil. So 2017 Audi S3 will stick with 2.0-liter TFSI engine which produces 292 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. This engine is connected to the six-speed S-Tronic dual clutch transmission. Famous Quattro AWD comes standard on both trims. But for those power hungry, there is also good news. Next year comes high-performance Audi RS3.
2017 Audi S3 – Price
New 2017 Audi S3 goes for starting price of $42.900 for Premium Plus and $48.400 for Prestige trim level. BMW M2 is the biggest rival.
