2017 Buick LaCrosse Review

Sales of Buick LaCrosse plummeted in 2016. The reason for that lies in the fact that everyone who had plans of adding this car to their garage waited for the new model. And it’s not just a facelift, it’s new third generation that debuted at 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show. Was it worth waiting for it? Well, yes and no. The 2017 Buick LaCrosse has its ups and downs, and we’ll cover them right now. Let’s fist say in general that new full-size luxury car is bigger, lighter, has a new engine. That’s all nice, but pricing options may persuade you of maybe buying something else. But eventually, you’ll be the judge of that.

2017 Buick LaCrosse – New Design And Platform

The model will ride on new Epsilon II platform which also underpins Chevrolet Impala. When it comes to dimensions, new LaCrosse is 197.5 inches long, 73.2 inches wide, height is 57.5 inches, while the wheelbase is 114.4 inches long. So in comparison to its predecessor new 2017 Buick LaCrosse is bigger. But thanks to the new platform it’s also lighter by 300 pounds.

When it comes to design, first thing noticeable is that designers have taken much from Avenir Concept. On the front, we can see almost identical waterfall grille that makes new LaCrosse more aggressive and luxurious. Not only that but instead monochrome three-shield Buick emblem, it comes with red, silver and blue. It also gets on each side new HID headlights and LED daytime running lights that are again quite similar to the concept and new sculpted hood. At the sides, 18-inch wheels come as standard, while 20-inch wheels are optional and only on the highest trim.

On the rear end, LED lighting units are similar to those we saw on Volvo S90 (which is criticized just for the look of its rear end). But the truth is, they have much better curves, thus, as far as we are concerned, look much better. HID headlights and LED rear lights come as standard on all trims. Even with ten colors available in color palette, they are mostly shades of black and white. Only colors that stand out from the restCrimson Red Tintcoat, Dark Saphire Blue Metallic and Pepperdust Metallic.

2017 Buick LaCrosse – Interior

As for the inside, all combined materials really give you the luxury feel. The large wooden piece on the passenger side and floating center which comes with wood and leather are just some of them. On the dashboard, there is 8-inch touchscreen, smaller than the one in Avenir, with two A/C vents on the side. Right below are many buttons and knobs that are, if we may say so, just squeezed together, making management a little bit difficult. Not only that but the position of seats are in that way, that’ll make you seat like in the bathtub and will make those buttons somehow hard to reach. Furthermore, while some car manufacturers are eager to make smaller shifters, Buick’s electronic shifter is quite big, and positioned higher, closer to the center console.

On the other hand, front seats are eight-way power adjustable, and you’ll certainly find a perfect driving position. They are also heated and ventilated and have new massage feature certainly making the drive in 2017 Buick LaCrosse  more comfortable. The steering wheel is also heated, and to fulfill the relaxing in driving there are also dual-zone automatic climate control, Moon white ambient lighting, power rear sunshade, and a premium Bose audio system. On the screen, you can also review your call logs and other thanks to the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto features connected with Buick IntelliLink infotainment system.

Quieter Cabin

Due to new platform and size legroom in the rear seat is also bigger, so passengers in the back will have plenty of room. The storage space has also increased in size, about 7%. 2017 Buick LaCrosse has a new feature which they call Active Noise Cancellation. It detects unwanted sounds and helps cancel them out through the vehicle’s speaker system. Road noise is absorbed thanks to the innovative acoustic materials.

2017 Buick LaCrosse – Powertrain

As for the powertrain, 2017 Buick LaCrosse gets new engine and transmission. It’s new 3.6-liter V6 engine which produces 305 horsepower and 268 lb-ft of torque. If you know that former model had only 1 horsepower and 4 lb-ft of torque less, you may think that new engine isn’t any better. But you must not forget that 2017 Buick LaCrosse lost about 300 pounds. And it also comes with the new eight-speed automatic transmission, so it is certainly quicker and has better fuel economy. FWD is standard, while AWD is available for $2.200 extra only on the highest trim. New LaCrosse also has Start/Stop technology. The old 2.4-liter engine is no longer available.

2017 Buick LaCrosse – Safety

Safety of LaCrosse hasn’t changed much in the last few years. From 2010 to 2013 for every model year, LaCrosse received Top Safety Pick award from the IIHS. For the last three years, 2014, 2015 and 2016 award wasn’t there, but in Good marks were there. We’ll have to wait until IIHS smashes new 2017 Buick LaCrosse around for the fresher results.
