Well, this might happen. When you look at the sale numbers of Chevrolet SS, you can see that numbers are increasing. But to what point. From 2013 to 2016, sales were going up, and the record-breaking number is 3.013. Really? Yes, over the course of four years Chevrolet sold only 8.805 of SS sedan. Just for comparison, The BMW i8 was sold 4.414 times in the last three years. It’s exactly half of the SS number, but i8 comes with three time’s higher price tag ($140.000). So, 2017 Chevrolet SS could be the last one coming off the production line. Although GM never confirmed this, this just might be. And if it goes, at least it should go down with style.
2017 Chevrolet SS – Design
And the rumor was that possibly last SS could come with V8 and a supercharger. In that way, it would produce 580 horsepower. That rumor was circulating all over the internet last year ago. Although we kept our fingers crossed the whole time, that didn’t happen. But, that’s life. The 2017 Chevrolet SS comes with eight exterior colors available. Only the Orange Blast metallic comes with $395 extra. Outside, there are HID headlights with LED daytime running lights.
2017 Chevrolet SS – Engine
The SS looks nice, but more important is what’s underneath. It has third-generation magnetic ride suspension, Brembo brakes, and quad-tipped dual-mode exhaust. Under the hood, there is a V8 engine. And with this 6.2-liter V8 which produces 415 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque, acceleration from 0-60 mph takes just 4.6 seconds. While there is only RWD available there are two choices of transmission. There is manual and automatic, both with six gears. We’d take the manual anytime, and it also comes as a no-cost option. Automatic has manual shifting mode with paddle shifters behind the multifunctional steering wheel.
2017 Chevrolet SS – Features
Since we got no more powerful luxury sedan, at least it’s packed. Unlike other Chevrolet models, the 2017 Chevrolet SS comes with only one trim available. And it comes with Premium leather 10-way adjustable power seats. On the dash, there is an 8-inch color touchscreen with Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system. It also has Bluetooth audio streaming and voice-activated technology. For entertainment purposes, there is 9-speaker Bose surround sound system. The SS is also available with a rearview camera with rear cross traffic alert and automatic parking assist, all standard. There is one feature that comes with $900 extra and that is sunroof.
2017 Chevrolet SS – Safety
While there is no crash test rating available for the SS, there is enough reason to believe that this model is safe. The 2017 Chevrolet SS comes with plenty of safety and crash-avoidance features. It has eight airbags including the knee bags for both front occupants. But it also comes with forward collision alert, lane departure warning, and side blind zone alert.
2017 Chevrolet SS – Price And Rivals
While it might be the last one since GM didn’t reveal successor to the SS, it is the right time to purchase one. And 2017 Chevrolet SS costs $48.920 including freight charge and Gas Guzzler Tax. Other models that might also be interesting are Chevrolet Camaro, Ford Mustang, Dodge Charger and Challenger.
