Mazda 3 is present on the roads from 2003 and now it’s in its third generation. It is the third Mazda model to implement Soul of Motion design language, right after CX-5 and 6. Current generation debut was in 2012 for 2013 model year and comes as sedan and hatchback version. And now, 2017 Mazda 3 has some small updates that are important to mention. Designer tweaked the exterior design a little, interior also got some updates. There are some active safety systems also added, but most important is the addition of Mazda’s G-Vectoring control. It is a system that improves steering response that was already implemented in Mazda 6.
2017 Mazda 3 – Design
First of all, when it comes to exterior, designer revised the grille. With redesigned headlights, 2017 Mazda 3 looks a bit more aggressive than before. We must also mention that LED headlights will now be available on higher trim levels. Rear bumper got revised also on this hatchback. We still must wait for picture release of sedan version for 2017 model year. But when it comes to the looks of the hatchback we can’t expect anything less. In addition, even with the 16-inch wheels will remain the same; 18-inch wheels are slightly different which are available on two highest trim levels. As for the color palette, Machine Gray Metallic will join the lineup, and Eternal Blue Mica will replace Blue Reflex Mica.
Although, when you look at the update list for the exterior it doesn’t seem much. But truth to be told design of Mazda 3, even without all the tweaks is one of the most beautiful cars today. In other words, those tweaks weren’t a must, but all together, it’s nice refreshment.
2017 Mazda 3 – Interior
On the inside, there are more changes than on the outside. Firstly, there is nicer trim for door panels. But more important is the 2017 Mazda 3 will have a new steering wheel, similar to the new CX-9. It will also have a heating option. Carmaker used better fabric for upholstery, and if you choose optional black leather, there are new accents in dark brown color. In addition, 2017 Mazda 3 will also have a heads-up display in color rather than monochromatic. Also, added electric parking brake will free up space in the center console. All in all, Mazda 3 has one of the best interiors when it comes to pricing options. But will get to price later. The carmaker said that they worked on noise isolation too, so the ride will be much quieter.
2017 Mazda 3 – Different Trims
The only thing unchanged is powertrain options. So for North America market, two engines will continue its use. We have 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine with 155 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque on “i” models. The other one is 2.5-liter, also inline four-cylinder engine with 180 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque that you get on “s” models. Six-speed either manual or transmission will also stay. But the catch is that Mazda will remove “i” and “s” from trim levels since they were somewhat confusing. For more detailed information on trim levels and price, please view our table below. As for the safety, it is quite enough to mention that in the last 6 years Mazda 3 (sedan and hatchback) got Top Safety Pick (2011-2013) and Top Safety Pick+ (2014-2016) awards. So we expect only highest marks.
