Mazda realized a rise in demand of large SUV’s, so in 2006 released the biggest model in their lineup. CX-9 was running for ten years when completely new redesigned the second generation came out. Not surprisingly, designers implemented Mazda’s KODO design language. New 2017 Mazda CX-9 isn’t bringing anything new, but there are some things that must be mentioned. So let’s walk you through everything you need to know about next model.
2017 Mazda CX-9 – New Colors
CX-9 has a longer wheelbase than the last generation, for 2.2 inches. But overall numbers of overall dimensions are smaller. New CX-9 is also lighter than the previous generation. When it comes to design, quite noticeable is larger grille than its smaller siblings. Headlights are thin and the bumper is also new. The only difference for 2017 Mazda CX-9 is in the color palette. For next model year, Mazda adds colors named Machine Grey, Soul Red, Snowflake White Pearl, Sonic Silver, Deep Crystal Blue, Jet Black and Titanium Flash. But not all of them will be available in all countries.
2017 Mazda CX-9 – Engine
As for the interior, there are no changes, so we won’t spend time reviewing something you already know. It remains seven-seat SUV with loads of features to make the trip more pleasurable. But for an engine part, there are some indications. You already know that Mazda ditched the 3.7-liter V6 unit in favor of 2.5-liter 4-cylinder SkyActiv-G turbo engine. This engine has from 227 to 250 horsepower depending on the fuel u use, 87-octane or 93-octane. The only transmission available is six-speed automatic, and 2017 Mazda CX-9 won’t get anything more than that. Why should it in the first place? Those two in combination work perfectly. FWD remains standard with optional AWD. The fuel economy also remains the same, if something drastic doesn’t happen and Mazda increases improvements in term of mechanical components. So it’s 21 in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.
2017 Mazda CX-9 – Competitors
Mazda will certainly maintain their market share or even increase it. But other competitors such as Dodge Durango, Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander and Ford Explorer aren’t sleeping. So we will yet to see how successful will 2017 Mazda CX-9 be.
