A luxury Honda division Acura has a variety of models in their range. And the entry and the smallest is Acura ILX. Unveiled in 2012, this was the first model to come with the hybrid drive. The first generation is roaming the streets today and there were speculations that 2018 Acura ILX will be the second generation of this compact luxury sedan. And it will be based on Acura Precision Concept. But we hardly doubt it. ILX received a mid-cycle facelift for 2016 model year so we aren’t expecting all-new model till 2019 or even 2020. But to boost sale numbers which really aren’t in favor of Acura ILX something must be done.

2018 Acura ILX – Design Update
This model is a heavy carryover of Honda Civic. They share the same platform but Acura carries its own DNA. Since we ruled out complete redesign 2018 Acura ILX will probably go through minor cosmetic updates. So in term of design, characteristic “beak” grille will stay, but some exterior colors might be added to the color palette. But famous “Jewel Eye” LED headlights that are the only option on ILX should get improved. And we say that because as far as IIHS is concerned, visibility of headlights of 2017 ILX is “M” (marginal). And this is something Acura isn’t proud of. But with that aerodynamic body, they surely are.

2018 Acura ILX – Interior
Furthermore, the interior is a masterpiece. This model has the luxury level like some other full-size sedans. We all know that high luxury and comfort level is easily achievable in larger cars. Maybe what Acura should only do is get rid of the excess physical buttons especially on the steering wheel. Other than that, infotainment system will surely get a software update on 7-inch color display. But we think that that would be all. After all, Acura introduced A-SPEC trim for 2016 bringing more sporty details on the inside and the outside. The complete redesign will surely be done later this decade.
2018 Acura ILX – Engine
There probably won’t be any changes under the hood. But we would really like to see some. Firstly, Acura ditched five-speed automatic and six-speed manual. We aren’t mourning the automatic one since Acura introduced eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. But there is no more manual transmission. And that the thing we would really like to see back in 2018 Acura ILX. The new automatic transmission sends torque to only front wheels from the 2.4-liter inline-4 engine. That might change as there are speculations of Acura offering AWD, but we doubt it. The 2.4-liter engine will stay with 201 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque but we could also see the somewhat bigger output. At this moment is unknown will Acura bring back hybrid option.

2018 Acura ILX – Safety
Some say that 2018 Acura ILX will have Acura Watch Plus standard on all trims. The fact that for 2017 model year didn’t receive the “+” on Top Safety Pick might be the reason for Acura to take this step. Safety level really is no issue with this car, but there is always room for improvement.
2018 Acura ILX – Possible Price
With mentioned updates, since there are small, the price tag for base 2018 Acura ILX probably won’t be much higher than the current’s $27.990. But it may go closer to $30.000 mark. The release date will probably be closer to 2018 rather than second half of 2017. It will take on BMW 2 Series, Audi A3, and Buick Verano. As for the Buick Verano, it is much more affordable than either one but we also received it is out of the question for 2018 model year on U.S. market.
