2018 Acura RDX Might Return With 4-Cylinder Engine

When it first appeared in 2006, Acura RDX didn’t quite achieve great success, with 9.164 sold units in the US. But later sales were constantly growing and with the second generation unveiled in 2013, there were 44.750 sold vehicles. From there, popularity is on the rise and there is no indication of slowing down. Why would it, since Honda is hard working on its luxury division to improve its first compact luxury crossover SUV. So what new can we expect from 2018 Acura RDX?

2018 Acura RDX – Design And Structure

When it comes to design it simple, but yet effective. It catches the eye of the observer and doesn’t let go. The current generation received a facelift in 2016 with new LED headlights and rear lights. Those will surely get carried over to 2018 Acura RDX. On the other hand, there are no expected changes yet. Even if it gets some it will be in the revised grille and possibly bumpers. By some rumors that are circling, RDX could receive more aluminum and carbon fiber to additionally reduce weight. But since Honda wants to keep their SUV quite affordable, we really don’t think that we’ll see expensive material like carbon fiber integrated. But aluminum alone will do the trick just fine.

2018 Acura RDX – Interior Space

Unlike another large luxury SUV’s like Volvo XC90, Audi Q7 and its bigger brother Acura MDX, this SUV has space for five occupants. Giving that dimensions of 2018 Acura RDX aren’t that small, all around comfort is surely on the highest level possible. With plenty of headroom and legroom, even the longest drives will be enjoyable. In addition, luggage space is also vast. Although there are no indications of a complete redesign of the interior, there are speculations of new colors added. When it comes to technology pack what it will have? We can’t get detailed about it since there is no information on that. But people would love gadgets like large infotainment screen, sunroof, Apple play connectivity etc. Well, that might be included, but what would the price be then?

On the other hand, there is Technology package available to at least some level satisfy “thirsty for high-tech” customers. With it, you get a power tailgate is included. Besides that, you will get an upgraded 60-gigabyte hard disc (HDD) based navigation system with an 8-inch screen. This system enables 15GB of music to be stored.

2018 Acura RDX – Drivetrain

When it comes to the drivetrain, there are two options. Unfortunately, 3.0-liter V6 is available only for China market. But the other one is 3.5-liter SOHC V6 that produces 279 horsepower and 252 lb-ft of torque. It’s the engine that has a little more output that was revised for 2016 model year. This V6 drivetrain has replaced 4-cylinder one that was installed prior to the second generation. The thing is why we are saying this is that there are speculations that this 4-cylinder engine might again be available for 2018 Acura RDX but revised and with possibly greater output numbers. That couldn’t be bad, as long as they don’t completely replace the V6 with this one.

Besides that, some owners would really like that Acura to do something about how do they put it “pathetic tow rating”. When it comes to fuel economy RDX has some pretty good numbers, when you come to think of it that it is an SUV. Whit 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway you can see why.

2018 Acura RDX – Safety Specs

There is one thing that is crucial to mention and that is safety. If we look at the safety ratings of the 2016 year model, you will see something that Acura can brag about. It received Top Safety Pick+ by the IIHS. In other words, even with tests that are by every year more and more advanced and demanding, 2018 Acura RDX will certainly get high safety numbers. And it has to thank the  AcuraWatch package including Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), and Integrated Dynamic System (IDS).

2018 Acura RDX – Speculated Price

We still have to wait a little longer when more confirmed info comes out. When it comes to a price tag we can predict that 2018 Acura RDX will cost around $36.000. And that is of course if they don’t fulfill the demands of customers and out high-tech inside the cabin to keep pace with other carmakers. If they do, the price will surely go much higher. As always you get what you pay for, and when it comes to affordable luxury SUV, RDX can’t be beaten.
