Acura RLX despite the good looks and performance doesn’t sell as well as Honda would like to. Sales are plummeting year after year with only 1.286 of sold units in 2015. The December isn’t over but nothing dramatically will change. To boost its sales, Acura must update their luxury sedan. And what will they do? By some reports, not much. There are rumors that 2018 Acura RLX will get a slight redesign, but other than that nothing else.

2018 Acura RLX – Stunning Design
We really don’t see the point of low sale figures when it comes to RLX since it really is a good looking car. But that’s the way it is. Since it was introduced in 2013 as the 2014 year model it is time for mid-cycle facelift. But there won’t be significant design changes. A minor facelift will bring updated grille with “Jewel Eyes” headlight being also revised. It’s crucial that engineers take a good look at those since as far as the IIHS is concerned they don’t provide good visibility. Although they consist of 5 different LED’s (four for low beam and one for high beam), they were rated “M” (marginal). While we’re at it, visibility of new LED lights seems to be the problem of all car makers.

2018 Acura RLX – Luxury Interior
The interior won’t go through a complete redesign. And there is a reason for that. The interior really is luxurious with high-quality leather 12-way power seats with 4-way adjust lumbar support and other soft-touch materials in every corner. Driving position is almost perfect and there is enough headroom and legroom for all occupants. Some changes will apply to the infotainment system. On top, there is navigation on the 8-inch screen. Just below it, there is a 7-inch color touchscreen for audio controls, climate, while AcuraLink and Acura Watch are also standard.
2018 Acura RLX – Engine Options
Nothing new will come for 2018 Acura RLX when it comes to powertrain. RLX already comes with 3.5-liter “Earth Dreams” V6 engine. It produces 310 horsepower and 272 lb-ft of torque and comes with six-speed automatic transmission. The EPA fuel economy stands on 20 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. This could get improved, but we hardly doubt it. But for those whom good fuel economy is a top priority, there is also a hybrid version. This one comes with three electric motors with in combination with gasoline engine provides a total output of 377 horsepower. This version comes with the seven-speed automatic transmission, Heads-up display, electronic gear selector and AWD. Fuel economy is much better in the city, nine more miles per gallon.
2018 Acura RLX – Rivals
We could expect 2018 Acura RLX somewhere in the end of 2017. While the price is still unknown, we are certain that it won’t go much higher. At least there is no reason for that. And another thing, which may be why Acura RLX sales are low. The competition that comes in Audi A6, Cadillac CTS, BMW 5 Series and Volvo S90 all have lower prices. Only Jaguar XF and Mercedes-Benz E-class come with higher starting prices.
