When sales off Acura TL started to rapidly decline, Honda pulled a maneuver that will get TL back on track. In 2014 Honda unveiled new generation model from its luxury division with a new name. New TLX replaced the TL and TSX version. The first year wasn’t that promising with 19. 127 units sold, even if it’s a rise for 8.511. But in 2015, sales grew even more with 47.080. That’s more than average sales number in TL’s last few years. We’ll yet see if this trend will continue, but until that, Acura is already preparing redesign. So, what can we see from spy photos of 2018 Acura TLX?
2018 Acura TLX – Design
Say goodbye to beak grille. Even with all the heavy camo, this is the first thing noticeable. Instead, a more favorable star exploding pattern grille. It’s the path Acura took when it unveiled Precision Concept. Fenders will also be redesigned and air intakes will be somewhat bigger. Headlights are also bigger than current Jewel Eye LED’s. The reason the side of 2018 Acura TLX isn’t camouflaged is that no changes will come on side profile. As for the rear end, camouflage is applied but rear lights are also part of the upgrade. The interior is still a mystery but we don’t expect any dramatic changes. Probably just updated infotainment system and a few added features.
2018 Acura TLX – Powertrain
As for the powertrain, Acura will probably continue to use existing engines. So, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder and 3.5-liter V6. The output of those engines amount 206 and 290 horsepower, but those numbers could get slight improvement for 2018 Acura TLX. All wheel drive and All wheel steer will also be available as before. The transmission will also remain the same, eight-speed automatic for I4 and nine-speed automatic for V6. Some reports say that TLX might come as a hybrid, which will be taken from new Honda Accord Hybrid.

2018 Acura TLX – Safety
As for the safety, we won’t talk about safety features since this luxury car is packed quite well. But there is something that Honda must take into consideration and that must be improved for 2018 Acura TLX. When it appeared, this model won Pick Safety Pick+ award even with rating “A” (Acceptable) in Small overlap front crash test. But as the IIHS raises the bar of crash testing, the same test for 2016 was rated “M” (Marginal). So for achieving anything close to prestigious awards this carmaker must really improve front structure. Will they do, we will yet to see.
2018 Acura TLX – Release Date
More information will probably be available later on, before its debut, that will probably be in mid-2017. Sales will follow later by the end of 2017. Although it’s early to talk about price, we assume it might be slightly higher. Taking into account that current TLX base model goes for $31.900, 2018 Acura TLX might start around $33.000 mark. TLX also has a wide range of competitors (most are Germans) and they are Audi A4, BMW 3-Series, Mercedes-Benz C-class, Volvo S60, Infiniti Q50, Buick Regal and Cadillac ATS.
