“Aston Martin you’ve been waiting for”, that what the official website of this carmaker says for their DB11. Currently on sale, and for now available only in coupe form. We say for now because DB11 will be launched in another version, and that’s convertible. To make difference in the name this convertible will have Volante in the end. 2018 Aston Martin DB11 Volante – Design

As we already know, Aston Martin makes luxury high-performance cars. And to achieve even better results in acceleration, drivability, and top speed, low curb weight is a must. So, Volante will be using the same aluminum and carbon fiber structure of the regular DB11 coupe. As we can see Aston Martin engineers are sticking with the soft top. For instance, that’s good enough for two reasons, it’s lighter, and tends to take less space when folded, unlike retractable hard top. That gives the designers chance to maintain the coupe silhouette.

Of course, designers had to reshape little rear haunches and shoulders of the car. But the problem with convertibles is that strengthening is needed, so this version of the DB11 will take more time for 0-60 mph sprint. As for the interior, it should be a luxury oasis as in the coupe version, but we’ll wait and see will there be any differences.

As for the heart of this convertible, it will use the 5.2-liter twin turbo V12. This engine is good enough for producing 600 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. However, there is also a possibility that Aston Martin makes space for entry version Volante with V8 engine. That would probably be a 4.0-liter twin turbo V8 from the Mercedes’ AMG division which will also be found in 2018 Aston Martin Vantage. But unlike the Vantage which might come with manual transmission Volante will use eight-speed automatic transmission which will transfer torque to rear wheels. Top speed with V12 should be around 200 mph.
