Current generation Audi A6 is present from 2011, so it’s time for all new model. Next generation comes as 2018 Audi A6, and it will be full of high-tech features. Audi plans to take head on Mercedes-Benz E-class and BMW 5-Series. Fifth-generation should be new in every way possible including exterior and interior design, and a range of powertrains. This medium-sized luxury will be unveiled at Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2017. So sales are expected in early 2018. Audi wants to each model line represent itself and has a unique identity and new A6 has new design thanks to new design boss Marc Lichte. But we, to tell you the truth, don’t see what is all fuss about.
2018 Audi A6 – New Design
So when we speak about design, the first thing you will notice is updated daytime running light signature. The headlights are much sleeker to give aggressive look. On the contrary to the slimmer design of headlights, front grille will be broader. On the sides, there are more masculine fenders. Around the back, rear lights also have a sleeker design with a chrome line beneath the trunk. If this sounds familiar, you are not mistaking, since new 2018 Audi A6 is based on The Prologue concept that was seen at the Los Angeles Motor Show back in 2014. Engineers will use MLB platform that is 220 pounds lighter, which we already saw on A8. So like we said before, fifth-generation will have a somewhat updated design, but we don’t see 2018 Audi A6 stand out from Audi’s lineup.

2018 Audi A6 – Interior Tech
But the interior is a whole different story when it comes to tech. Although new A6 will benefit from its bigger brother A8 in term of autonomous safety, famous Audi MMI system will not see daylight in the new model. In fact, all traditional buttons are gone. The cabin of 2018 Audi A6 will come with a two touchscreens in the centre console that will give you feedback to your finger. And that is first one of that kind in the automotive world. So we finally come to something new. As we already said, the autonomous kit will be taken from A8 and will include “traffic-jam pilot” tech. At speeds up to 37 mph car will take full control of speed and the steering wheel to ease the traffic jams.
2018 Audi A6 – Powertrains
As far as the powertrain is concerned, Audi has a variety of engines available. In other words, something completely new might not be seen. But ok, it’s too early to talk about that. Even if Audi manages to develop new engines, one thing is for sure. The 2018 Audi A6 will continue to use its 2.0-liter turbo Inline-4 engine for the base model. For higher trim levels such as S6, twin-turbocharged V-6 with around 400 horsepower will do the job. Another twin-turbocharged but V8 will power the RS6 but it is expected in the late 2018 or even 2019. There is also one thing that is crucial to mention. A manual transmission will no longer be an option for A6, so only seven and eight-speed automatic gearboxes will be used.
2018 Audi A6 – Release Date And Price
In term of safety, we expect nothing less from highest ratings. In the last. The 2012 and 2013 model received Top Safety Pick from IIHS while 2016 A6 managed to add a + to this award. Apart from 5-Series and E-class, Cadillac CTS, Lexus GS and Jaguar XF might jeopardize good sales of 2018 Audi A6. Price won’t be higher so new model will cost just below the $50.000 mark.
