Audi works hard on their entire model lineup. One of their models, not particularly in demand is A7. Sales have never reached a number of 1.000 per month, but that doesn’t stop the Germans to update this full-size luxury car. 2018 Audi A7 was caught with camo, which can lead us to think that major design update will take place. But with a closer look, we can see that only minor changes will be adopted on the new model.
2018 Audi A7 – New Platform
But more importantly to say is that new A7 has a new platform. That’s right, MLB Evo architecture will underpin the updated body. The basic task of the new platform is to reduce overall weight. But as one thing leads to another, we can also expect better fuel efficiency, handling, and performance. The new platform also means that new engines can find a place under the hood.
2018 Audi A7 – Exterior Design
As for design, the first thing noticeable is new grille. It remains hexagonal but now it is much wider. Headlights are thinner which in combination with bigger grille gives us more aggressive and sportier look. Roof line remains identical and cuts to rear end which adopts changes. There is a set of new rear lights, but more surprisingly is that there are no exhaust pipes. And that can me two things, the first is that this is some Audi’s unusual design choice or the model in question might be electric. We can clearly see that some key design cues are taken from Prologue Concept.
2018 Audi A7 – Interior
We can also expect interior redesign. The first thing that we must mention is Audi Virtual Cockpit that will arrive on 2018 Audi A7. In addition to that, we can expect a series of semi- and full-autonomous features. There is also a strong indication that interior will be done with Prologue Concept as a starting point. In other words, many physical buttons should be erased from the dashboard in favor of new minimalistic design.
2018 Audi A7 – V6 Engine
The new model will continue to use existing V6 engine. A year ago Audi engineers managed to squeeze another 23 horsepower from the 3.0-liter TFSI supercharged engine for a total of 333 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque. While rest of the world has seven-speed S Tronic, for North American market, A7 comes with eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. 2018 Audi A7 will continue to use this gearbox, while Audi’s Quattro AWD system will get refined for better handling and improved fuel consumption. There were rumors that 2018 Audi A7 entry model would use a 2.0-liter turbo 4-cylinder engine, but we hardly doubt it.
2018 Audi A7 – Release Date
This is the last update of current generation since whole new generation is due for 2019 model year. Until then, we have redesigned A7 that will come in the middle of 2017, followed up with high-performance models S7 and RS7. Porsche Panamera, BMW 6 Series, and Mercedes-Benz CLS-class are main rivals of this model.
