What a nice track Nurburgring is. There we can spot many prototype vehicles and tell what is coming. One of the spotted models is new 2018 Audi S7. Although covered in swirly camo, design cues taken from the Prologue Concept can be seen right away. But for the “S” line of Audi, beautiful design isn’t the most important thing. It’s what’s under the hood that matters. But, first things first.
2018 Audi S7 – Exterior Design
Straight away on the front, we can see ultra wide Audi’s Singleframe hexagonal grille. It’s not only wider; it’s lower and has sharper edges. That is not the only thing taken from the concept, but we can also see a pair of thin LED lights. Even the camo can’t hide beautiful sleek line from front to rear end. While the side profile is beautified with large wheels, the rear part maybe the most interesting one. It’s not because of the quad exhaust pipes or LED rear lights, but this prototype has a pop-up spoiler. This subtle item might be on the production model as well. Design aside, 2018 Audi S7 also brings new platform. The word is about MLB Evo platform that will underpin most of the Audi models. Thanks to that, new S7 will lose about 220 pounds resulting in better performance and handling.
2018 Audi S7 – Interior
The first thing that we can expect is a roomier cabin, thanks to the new platform, so there will certainly be more legroom. The luxury interior will not be just a luxury. Of course, we expect a high level of comfort. In addition to Valcona leather seats with diamond stitching like on Audi S6 and S8, the S7 will be packed with high-end technology. Audi Virtual Cockpit, MMI interface with advanced voice and hand gesture recognition, OLED displays are just some of them. More interesting are semi-autonomous technology like Traffic Jam Assist. It can control driving of the car up to speeds of 37 mph. There is also a self-parking feature which will be done via a smartphone app and all of that is possible due to the use of radar, ultrasonic sensors, laser and several cameras.
2018 Audi S7 – New Engine
There could be a big change under the hood. In S7 we are accustomed to a 4.0-liter V8 producing 450 horsepower. But the main change is that 2018 Audi S7 will bring twin turbo 3.0-liter V6 that will produce the same amount of horsepower. The revised V8 with more horsepower will probably be reserved for RS model. As for the transmission, new S7 should replace seven-speed S Tronic in favor of eight-speed automatic transmission. Of course, famous Audi Quattro AWD system will also be revised and improved for the next model.
2018 Audi S7 – Release Date
The release date of 2018 Audi S7 will be a few months after the A7, so we can expect it in the third quarter of 2017. The price will surely go higher but it will remain under $85.000 mark.
