A hotter version of the luxury Q5 is just around the corner. Next generation comes with many changes, as we expect it. A high-performance SUV will get an extra dose of performance. Audi engineers covered almost all the mechanical aspects including platform, powertrain, while designers were high on the task to improve its appearance. Here is everything new that 2018 Audi SQ5 brings.
2018 Audi SQ5 – Design
Based on MLB Evo platform, new SQ5 will be stronger but also lighter. It shares, of course, most of the similarities with the new Q5. Besides standard “SQ5” emblems on front and rear end, we can see bolder chrome outlining Singleframe grille. Mesh pattern that was on the previous generation were dropped in favor of large intakes with horizontal bars, as we can see on the grille. We can also see double-spoke furnished 20-inch wheels on the sides.
2018 Audi SQ5 – Interior Tech
On the inside, 2018 Audi SQ5 comes with sportier interior than Q5. Main differences are in the flat-bottom steering wheel and bolstered seats. We also expect an increase in rear legroom. Audi Virtual Cockpit is available, but only as an option. But Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come as standard as well as Bang & Olufsen sound system. There is also MMI touch interface. To further enhance the SQ5, the buyer can opt for S sport package. With this, SUV will have air suspension and sport rear differential. With air suspension, the driver can adjust ride height and firmness with four driving modes, Comfort, Auto, Dynamic, and Individual. New SQ5 will also come with the rear-wheel steering system, but this feature also costs extra.
2018 Audi SQ5 – Powertrain
Both, S4 and S5 got rid of the supercharger. And the same has happened to new SUV. Instead, 3.0-liter V6 will come with a turbocharger. Although it produces the same amount of horsepower, 354, torque is increased from 346 to 369 lb-ft. 2018 Audi SQ5 comes with standard Quattro system (Audi AWD) and eight-speed automatic transmission. According to Audi, next generation SQ5 will do 0-60 mph in 5.1 seconds.
2018 Audi SQ5 – Release Date
We can expect 2018 Audi SQ5 in a second or third quarter of 2017. But at this moment, Audi still hasn’t revealed the pricing. Before that, be sure to take a look at BMW X3.
