Next generation BMW X3 has been caught several times testing. Each time caught BMW X3 had less and less camo on it. And now that they finally left only light camo wraps, we can see the new design, which was created by BMW’s Australian Designer, Calvin Luk. It’s not design that is the only thing changed. 2018 BMW X3 brings many mechanical and technology updates as well.
2018 BMW X3 – Design
The first one is, not surprisingly, the new platform. With the development of the CLAR, structural architecture which debuted in the 7-Series, the new SUV will be more rigid, but also lighter. With the use of aluminum, carbon-fiber and magnesium alloy, X3 will lose around 220 pounds. This will result in better handling, performance and fuel economy. While being lighter, it has also grown slightly in size; it even looks bigger than the X5. Aside from that, we can also see production ready headlights and rear lights. BMW won’t differ too much from its original design language, but next generation X3 will certainly be more updated in that term.
2018 BMW X3 – Interior
New X3 will, thanks to the new platform, offer more interior space. It is expected that rear legroom will grow as well as cargo volume. The luxury level should also be updated with higher quality materials. Other than that, German carmaker will enrich 2018 BMW X3 with updated technology taken from the 5- and 7-Series. It is unknown at this moment, whether or not will new X3 receive semi-autonomous technology, but this will likely happen.
2018 BMW X3 – Powertrains
As for the powertrains, the new model will probably share engines with 3-Series, meaning we’ll have a 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder as a top offer. The base model should get inline 4-cylinder engine, including a diesel. With new platform also comes new powertrains, and the main news is that 2018 BMW X3 will also come as a plug-in hybrid. This powertrain might also be borrowed from the 3-Series and the X5, but the number of horsepower should be closer to X5 rather than the 3-Series. BMW’s all-wheel drive system, the x Drive will remain optional, while eight-speed automatic transmission will be an only option for shifting gears.
2018 BMW X3 – Price
New X3 will be unveiled at the beginning of 2017, while the start of sales will be right after. The price will surely rise, and the starting price of 2018 BMW X3 might be little over $40.000. One other thing is that we can also expect high-performance X3 M model as well.
