2018 BMW X5 M Updates

We already saw that BMW will shorten the generation life of the X5, mainly for one reason. And that’s for the implement of newly developed SCAR architecture. It’s lighter and stronger thanks to the use of aluminum, steel and magnesium alloy. So, we saw that all newer models in the BMW lineup will be based on mentioned platform, and we strongly believe that high-performance M version of the X5 will have it as well. When in mind that first generation of X5 M was three years old until a successor was introduced, we can strongly believe that new generation is coming. Nevertheless, will it or not, 2018 BMW X5 M beside new platform will also bring more updates.

2018 BMW X5 M – Changes

Fully LED headlights with adaptive high beams were available only with the selection of Executive package. While more and more carmakers have this feature as standard, 2018 BMW X5 M might also be offered with it, with no extra cost. Famous kidney grille could be slightly enlarged, while designers will play a key role to bring more aerodynamic surfaces across the body. The interior will adopt more trim options, combining more color variation with contrast stitching. Only the highest quality materials will be used as we expect from this luxury SUV. There are some rumors that instead of standard gauges behind the multifunctional steering wheel, there will be some sort of TFT display. Other than that, 2018 BMW X5 M should adopt self-parking feature.

2018 BMW X5 M – More Horsepower

The most interesting part of the X5 M is, of course, what the M stands for. The current X5 M comes with 4.4-liter V8 engine and it produces 567 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. We don’t expect a new type of engine under the hood of new X5 M. But BMW slowly increases the output of the entire lineup. Thus, we expect that new model might reach a number of horsepower that is closer to 600. While current model has acceleration from 0-60mph in just 4 seconds, with the new lighter platform and increased output this time will surely be slightly improved. Imagine heavy, big SUV that has “zero to sixty” time the same as some sports cars. The xDrive will be standard as before which is specially M-tuned for off-road driving. The eight-speed automatic transmission will also stay.
