While other manufacturers were upscaling their SUV segment, BMW was sleeping. This is no more since this German manufacturer will add another SUV in their lineup. And the biggest too. Since the demand for seven-seat SUV’s is rising, BMW prepared an adequate response. It will sit on top of the X lineup, above X5 and X6. And it comes as the 2018 BMW X7. With the luxury level of the 7-Series and the room to haul big families, we expect the new model sales go quite well.
2018 BMW X7 – Design
The new model will sit on a variant of the new CLAR platform, which we firstly saw on the 7-Series. This advanced cluster architecture will underpin most of the BMW models in the future. Even with the light platform, we don’t expect it to be featherweight considering its size. While at this moment only spy photos are available, www.caranddriver.com rendering is the closest we’ll get to see how the X7 will look like until its launch. And with depth in view of the spy photos combined with rendering, we can see LED headlights that flow into much larger famous kidney grille. Down below, across the whole front end, there is wide air intake with horizontal strips.
2018 BMW X7 – Luxury Interior
The interior at this point is a mystery. The only thing that is certain is that 2018 BMW X7 will have seven seats. But it is expected that X7 will take as much as it can from the 7-Series and add more, being the luxurious SUV in the model lineup. So, high-quality leather seats, removable 7-inch command tablet, an iDrive navigation system, Bower & Wilkins surround system and much more will make the trip as much as pleasant as can be.
2018 BMW X7 – Powertrains
The new model will also mimic the engines from the 7-Series. For the entry level, we expect a turbo 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine with probably more than 320 horsepower. There should also be a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 with around 450 horsepower. Diesel might also join the lineup, while new architecture can also serve additional powertrains. So, the plug-in hybrid should also come into play. There is also word that 2018 BMW X7 will get the most powerful V12 engine since BMW is targeting Russia market. But this engine might also reach the United States. BMW’s xDrive will come as standard, we don’t think that this model will be available with RWD alone. Eight-speed automatic transmission is the most likely solution for gear shifting.
2018 BMW X7 – Release Date
The new model will probably be unveiled at Geneva Motor Show with sales expected to start in the second half of 2017. We also expect price range to be from $70.000 and all the way up to $120.000 for the top offer. With this model, BMW firstly aims at Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator. But let’s not forget that there are also Bentley Bentayga, Infiniti QX80, Lexus LX570, and Mercedes-Benz GLS-class. Audi is also preparing the new Q8.
