The newest full-size luxury model, the CT6 plays important role in Cadillac lineup. With sales started in March 2016, by the end of the same year, they sold 9.169 units. CT6 is Cadillac’s attempt to take on its European rivals such as Audi A8 and S8, Mercedes-Benz S-class, BMW 7-Series, and Jaguar XJ. Although pretty young, Cadillac won’t leave anything to chance, they will add a major update for 2018 model year. Because of that 2018 Cadillac CT6 will be one of the rare cars that will have wide engine lineup.
2018 Cadillac CT6 – Design
Two CT6’s were air-freighted in Melbourne a few days ago for further testing and development. Despite being test mules there is not a single piece of camo. The reason for that is that there is, at first glance, there are no design changes. Multifunctional LED headlights and daytime running lights with turn signals blend nicely into the single vertical lighting system. Fluent lines beautify this model across the whole body and with integrated spoiler and ten colors in the palette, there isn’t more you could wish for.
Everything inside is done with highest-quality materials, with more than enough legroom for the rear seat occupants. 2018 Cadillac CT6 will also carry over various trims. It is enough to say that with Platinum the buyer will have quad-zone climatic control and Bose Panaray 34-speaker sound system. So, everything looks the same, except one minor detail in the exterior. And it’s the quad exhaust system instead two wide trapezoidal ones. Despite the model seen carries the V6TT badge, it can mean one thing, a V8 engine.
We just found out that 2018 Cadillac CT6 will also feature first ever Super Cruise. This feature is, in other words, semi-autonomous technology. Cadillac said that this hands-free assist technology will help the driver in everyday commute. It consists of two technologies. The first one is LIDAR(LIght Detection And Ranging)-based map database which works in combination with GPS, cameras, and sensors. It allows the Super Cruise to react instantly. The other one is advanced driver attention system. It’s basically a face recognition software, which uses infrared lights to track head position and thus monitor driver’s alertness. This feature will probably be optional.
The green light on the top of the steering wheel indicates that the Super Cruise is engaged.
2018 Cadillac CT6 – New Engine
So, they might wanna fool us into thinking that nothing is going on, but why would 2018 Cadillac CT6 being shipped across the world if nothing new is installed under the hood. And we strongly believe that new CT6 will come with newly developed 4.2-liter twin-turbo V8. GM confirmed the development of new V8 engine a while ago. Although they didn’t reveal the amount of horsepower, speculation is that new V8 will have horsepower and torque in the high 400’s. Just for reminder, that 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 in the current CT6 develops 404 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque.
The new engine might also be connected to the new 10-speed automatic transmission. If that won’t be the case, the eight-speed automatic will do fine also. CT6 also brought new GM Omega platform when it was introduced. It’s specially developed for full-size luxury cars with either RWD or AWD. Only on two lowest trims, RWD comes as standard while AWD is optional.
2018 Cadillac CT6 – Price
As we can see on the label, the price of this sedan is not yet available, but it will surely go slightly higher. Nevertheless, which starting price will 2018 Cadillac CT6 have, it will be much lower than the price of its rivals mentioned in the introduction.
