There were reports that Cadillac will discontinue the XTS after 2019. With the introduction of full-size CT6, this was maybe not surprising. The sales of luxury XTS were slowly dropping by 1.000 units per year. But later, Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen confirmed that the model will get a major refresh. Cadillac found interest to continue to invest in this model. And now there is proof that this full-size sedan will continue to live. 2018 Cadillac XTS was caught with heavy camo on the front and rear side. Although hard to see, some changes can be seen.
2018 Cadillac XTS – Redesign
When the president said major refresh, he meant it. The front end takes some key design features from the CT6. For starters, it’s the unique vertical lighting unit. Between this LED headlights, the grille with horizontal lines looks simpler. The cut in the middle of the camo indicates some sort of sensor for driving assistance. The rear end is more obscured, therefore we can’t see the changes. But they are likely to be in redesigned rear lights, bumper and maybe trunk lid.
2018 Cadillac XTS – Interior
While pictures of the interior aren’t available, we can guess what’s going on. We expect a usual upgrade in quality of materials, as well as some new trim options. There should also be an upgrade for Cadillac’s CUE infotainment system. The sensor on the front also maybe indicates that there will be more advanced safety systems as well. The safety of XTS isn’t an issue since it scored throughout the years all “G” scores. But received Top Safety Pick award from the IIHS only in 2013. The reason for that is that model wasn’t tested in small overlap front test which wasn’t mandatory for the award at that time.

2018 Cadillac XTS – Powertrain
The current XTS comes with the 3.6-liter V6 engine. Without turbo, the engine produces 304 horsepower and 264 lb-ft of torque. But with twin turbochargers, the output is raised to 410 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. When Johan said major refresh, he probably emphasized on the exterior and interior looks. So, we might not get wider engine lineup, but that would surely benefit the sales of XTS. The standard transmission is six-speed automatic, while there are FWD and AWD available. This model doesn’t power the rear wheels alone.
2018 Cadillac XTS – Price
We don’t understand what future will XTS have when in mind the Cadillac introduced CT6, but we will find put pretty soon. With mentioned changes, the price will surely go up. But to be competitive with the likes of Audi A8, Mercedes-Benz S-class, BMW 7-Series and Jaguar XJ we don’t expect a number higher than $48.000.
