2018 Chevrolet Cruze Diesel

Chevrolet is working hard to please the majority of the crowd. While SUV segment is expanding day by day, this American manufacturer won’t let models from other segments down the drain. The 2017 model year already brought changes to Cruze. In the lineup, there is now first ever hatchback Cruze. But 2018 model year is even better. It looks like Chevrolet wants to be ready when gas prices go high. Not to mention the advantage of VW’s diesel emission scandal. There were reports that it will happen for 2017 model year but it didn’t. But 2018 Chevrolet Cruze will be getting a new diesel engine. But that’s not all.

2018 Chevrolet Cruze – Same Design

New Cruze will continue to use the newly developed D2XX platform. And with recent cosmetic updates, the 2018 Chevrolet Cruze won’t receive any exterior changes. And we don’t mind since it already looks attractive enough. It is one of the most eye appealing models on the market. And the hatchback version even looks more attractive than the sedan. The interior already comes with plentiful features as standard. There are 7-inch color touchscreen, 10 airbags, and a rearview camera.  But design isn’t the only thing when buyer’s looking for new car. So, Chevrolet will be one of the rare manufacturers that will offer a hatchback with a diesel engine and manual transmission.

2018 Chevrolet Cruze – New Diesel And Transmission

The new engine can be found on 2018 Equinox. It is the 1.6-liter turbodiesel 4-cylinder engine. It is unknown at this moment how much output we’ll get but in Equinox, this engine produces 136 horsepower. Chevrolet also aims at high fuel economy, around 50 mpg. This doesn’t seem unreachable when in mind that new SUV gets 40 mpg. Another update that will take place is the new transmission. Current Cruze is available with either six-speed manual or automatic. Good news is that manual will stay, it is already rare in today’s models. But there will be also nine-speed automatic available. That’s also nice, but diesel-powered hatchback with manual transmission brings more joy for us. FWD will remain the only option.

As for the safety were still waiting for the IIHS to conduct small overlap crash test on new Cruze. Just for the reminder that former generation Cruze didn’t manage to score more than “M” (Marginal). We hope that new generation Cruze will get a good score in this trouble giving crash test.

2018 Chevrolet Cruze – Competitors

The pricing isn’t yet available, but the price will surely rise. With these upgrades to 2018 Chevrolet Cruze, American carmaker will get some edge over its rivals. And just some of them are Volkswagen Golf, Mazda 3, Hyundai Elantra, Ford Focus, and Honda Civic.
