Tahoe is one of the U.S. favorite full-size SUV. At least, that’s what the sale numbers are saying. In the last couple of years, sales were growing to reach a high 103.306 of Tahoe’s sold in 2016. Chevrolet won’t rest on the current success. They prepared something special. While most carmakers concentrate on some styling tweaks and upgrades, 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe will be available with much more horsepower. The regular Tahoe will remain, but people at Chevrolet prepared RST trim and one performance package.
2018 Chevrolet Tahoe – Design Changes
For starters (before we get to the main event), the RST trim will get you those usual tweaks and upgrades. When the buyer opts for this trim there are four colors available, White, Black, Silver, and Tungsten. Besides that, all chrome details will be gone. Instead, surroundings of grille and door handles will be in body color. Chevrolet emblem along with the grille, roof rails, mirrors cap will get black-gloss treatment. That’s not all, the RST stands for Sport Rally Trucks and in this manner, the buyer will also get 22-inch twin-spoke wheels with Bridgestone tires.
2018 Chevrolet Tahoe – New Engine
And that’s just being a part of the update for new Tahoe. Once the buyer selects this trim, he will be able to select newly available performance package. And this is where things get interesting. The regular 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 engine with 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque and six-speed automatic transmission will remain in regular Tahoe. But with the performance package, it won’t be regular Tahoe anymore. The buyer will get GM’s 6.2-liter V8 engine. The output of this engine is 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. That’s not all. This engine comes with the new ten-speed automatic transmission. And again, that’s not all. The performance package also includes Magnetic Ride Control suspension.
There are also means to slightly increase horsepower since Chevrolet will also offer Borla exhaust adding between 7 and 10 horsepower to the total. This will be enough to propel Tahoe from standstill to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds.
When we come to think of it, is it enough to stand with others? No. As Chevrolet truck marketing director Sandor Piszar said: “I’m not predicting a horsepower war in the SUV segment”. The reason the answer is no because even with RST trim and optional performance package, new 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe still falls short to Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk with more than 700 horsepower and Dodge Durango with 475 horsepower.
2018 Chevrolet Tahoe – Release
New RST Tahoe will arrive in fall this year. The problem is that we don’t have even the sightless hint of the pricing. Nevertheless, those who want a 5.7-second 0-60 time SUV will probably have their wallets ready.
