Those who love the Traverse will have a reason to be happy. After nine years of waiting, next generation model will soon be upon us. The current model is very successful with an average of 90.045 of sold vehicles. Just in 2015, record sales are achieved with a number of 119.945. If you have in mind that Traverse is almost a decade old, sales numbers might be a little surprising. But throughout the years it received one facelift, some other cosmetic changes, and upgrades (one time renaming the trim level). So the sales are growing. And now the photographers captured spy photos of 2018 Chevrolet Traverse. In other words, Chevrolet really wants to grab a larger market share when it comes to full-size SUV’s. So what can we tell from the photos?
2018 Chevrolet Traverse – Platform
Firstly the thing we know is that old Traverse was riding on Lambda platform. Now engineers are swapping it for new GMC’s C1 platform. We already saw this architecture on 2018 Buick Enclave but with C1XX name. And that is why 2018 Chevrolet Traverse will be longer. So more than 204 inches, longer than Tahoe. But thanks to new platform weight savings will be considerable. As for design, it is really impossible to tell anything due to heavy camouflage. They took the effort to hide every panel and detail, so talking and speculating about that would be in vain but the complete redesign is expected. Since there is not a glimpse of the inside we will for now put period on this as well.
2018 Chevrolet Traverse – New Engine
A 3.6-liter V6 engine is powering the current Traverse. It comes with six-speed automatic transmission and FWD or AWD. The only way to increase output a little bit is by having a dual exhaust system. So instead 281 horsepower you can have 288. We can say that V6 will likely to stay but another one might join the lineup. We talk about 3.6-liter V6 engine but with the output of 310 horsepower. That’s not all; 2018 Chevrolet Traverse will also benefit from two more gears. Instead six-speed now comes eight-speed automatic transmission. Some say that a nine-speed automatic that GMC is working on might also come. So in other words with all above mentioned more favorable fuel consumption numbers are also expected.
2018 Chevrolet Traverse – Projected Price
Since it the end of 2016 is near, and test mule is still on the road, we can’t expect it to see it in the dealerships anytime soon. But in the last quarter of 2017, that will happen. As for the price, although completely redesigned and reengineered 2018 Chevrolet Traverse won’t stray too much from current $30.000 mark.
