When in 2011, Ford ceased production of Ranger for U.S. market, many were wondering will Ford bring back this mid-size pickup. Ranger is still available all across the globe. Why has Ford decided on this step is completely irrelevant the question is will they bring it back. Well, we already know that production of Focus and C-Max which is now in Michigan Assembly Plant is moving to Mexico in 2018. So empty plant will serve as the ending point of new Bronco, and probably new Ranger. Although not yet confirmed, Ford is likely to bring back this pickup, that might come as 2018 Ford Ranger. So what can we in the first place expect from the return of this model?

2018 Ford Ranger – Design
To truly dominate the pickup segment, Ford could offer all three cab versions, the regular, extended and crew. Since no other manufacturers offer regular cab anymore, with this step, Ford could get the edge other its rivals. When it comes to design, there probably won’t be significant changes in comparison to Global Ranger. New tow hooks will be installed with either black or chrome details depending on the trim level. While headlights and grille will likely to remain the same, the grille will be different with each trim level. In other words, 2018 Ford Ranger will probably be similar to the updated F-150. The sides also won’t be dramatically changed. New Ranger will be equipped with 17- or 19-inch wheels with a different set of tires. As for the back, the bed will probably have LED lighting, while the tailgate will have Ford’s spring-loaded assist system.

2018 Ford Ranger – Interior
Interior of the current Global Ranger is in nice and simple. But for 2018 model year we can expect updates. Cloth seat coverings will probably be found on lower trims. But for higher trims interior will get leather upholstery with wood and chrome details also added. In addition to minor cosmetic changes 2018 Ford Ranger could get latest Ford’s SYNC on higher trims as standard. That will bring new navigation, HD and satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, as well as hands-free phone operation and voice control for some of the systems. One more addition could be found in Ranger and that is 360° camera view that was seen in F-150.
2018 Ford Ranger – Engine lineup
There are four different versions of powertrain for Global Ranger. But three of them are diesel. So 2018 Ford Ranger for U.S. could get a completely new lineup of engines with one exception. And that is 3.2-liter inline-5 turbodiesel which is already found in U.S. this engine produces 185 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. Next one, they will probably borrow from F-150. And that is 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 which in F-150 produces 325 horsepower and 375 lb-ft of torque. That might not be all.
To satisfy customers who need high fuel economy numbers, Ford could also put 4-cylinder under the hood. The one in Explorer is 2.3-liter EcoBoost with 280 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque will do the trick. As for the transmission options, there will be six-speed manual or automatic. Ford could also for higher trims include new ten-speed automatic which is found in F-150. Also, RWD or 4WD will be available.

2018 Ford Ranger – Possible Price
As for the price, to stay competitive Ford won’t go too high. And if the Ford goes for the regular cab it can cut the price lower even from the cheapest $20.100 Chevrolet Colorado. But by 2018, pricing will certainly go higher so 2018 Ford Ranger could start around $21.000. If Ford makes Ranger for U.S. market, they will certainly jeopardize sales of Chevrolet Colorado and ToyotaTacoma.
