2018 GMC Canyon Possible Updates

As we already know, GMC Canyon received some important updates for 2017 model year including all new 3.6-liter V6 engine. It comes with new eight-speed automatic. Like its twin brother Chevrolet Colorado, Canyon wants its fair share of the market. But the GMC wants to take a bigger bite from Toyota Tacoma which is on the top when small pickup trucks are in question. Just for comparison, Toyota sold 191.631 Tacoma’s in 2016, while Canyon has five times fewer sales, 37.449. Let’s not forget the Honda Ridgeline and Nissan Frontier. So, 2018 GMC Canyon might receive some updates to further boost its success on the market.

2018 GMC Canyon – Modest Changes

There won’t be any design changes whatsoever. The only thing that we can expect is new exterior colors. At this moment it is unknown whether they will mix up their color palette and drop some colors or just add more to already eight existing ones. For 2017 model year GMC added Dark Slay metallic. So as for exterior, that should be all. The same is with the interior. Nothing new, except one thing. 2018 GMC Canyon should receive (if rumors are true) optional sunroof. While optional on base trims, this feature should be standard with Denali package. Although, a potential buyer might have a choice of deleting this feature if he doesn’t want more sunshine.

2018 GMC Canyon – Duramax With New Gearbox

As for the engine compartment, there won’t be anything new. Since GMC enriched Canyon with the new engine as we said above, no changes are expected here. The engine lineup will consist of an above-mentioned gasoline engine, a 2.8-liter Duramax inline 4-cylinder diesel, and 2.5-liter also inline 4-cylinder. The only change we expect here (and which is circling the internet) is that Duramax diesel engine could benefit from two more gears. Even if this is true, we don’t know will it be optional, or it will come as standard for this diesel.

2018 GMC Canyon – Slight Price Adjustment

With all mentioned above, we rightfully don’t expect big changes in the pricing. Unless GMC comes out with more updates than listed here.
