2018 Hyundai Azera Uncertain For U.S. Market

With the introduction of Hyundai’s luxury division Genesis, this South Korean manufacturer might step out of the large, upscale sedan segment. Hyundai can’t be happy about this sedan’s sale numbers in the U.S. when in the last eight years, the number went over 10.000 only in 2013. However, they won’t abandon the 2018 Hyundai Azera. This model will be available in South Korea by the name Grandeur. You can look, but can’t touch. For now. The reason we say this is that there is a possibility that this sedan crosses the ocean. Hyundai U.S. division said: “Considering the importance of Hyundai Motor’s flagship model in overseas markets, we are currently reviewing the possibility of introducing a U.S.-specific model that reflects the needs of customers in North America. Further information will be announced in due course.”

2018 Hyundai Azera – Design

So, if there’s going to be U.S. specific model, it certainly won’t be much different than Korean spec. The looks of the new model are in one word, better. 2018 Hyundai Azera has a more formal appearance. For starters, there is now cascading grille on the front with longer, sleeker and bulged hood. The sides also carry long flowing lines which give it a muscular look. And after two generations, the full-width rear lights have come back on the rear end. The back is also nicely complemented with two exhaust outlets. All in all, the front end resembles new Genesis G80, while rear end looks more like Dodge Charger.

Interior is also new. The dashboard is now emphasized on width with two-tone contrast. And that’s with dark hue above and lighter wood like in the center. As we can see there is not so big infotainment screen oriented towards the driver. The U.S. spec model will certainly receive a bigger one since today’s drivers are already accustomed to iPad-like screens. The 2017 U.S. model is already equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen with navigation. On the right side, there is small touch in form of analog watch, while below are lines of buttons for various controls, including audio system and more.

2018 Hyundai Azera – Engines

Hyundai hasn’t yet revealed which engine will be under the hood of 2018 Hyundai Azera. But with today’s trends 3.3-liter V6 will probably remain. Maybe the output will be slightly larger from today’s 293 horsepower. Then again, Hyundai also might install, in addition, smaller volume 4-cylinder turbo. We can also expect that Hyundai ditches six-speed automatic in favor of new eight-speed automatic. FWD is standard. While AWD would be nice for this model, it probably won’t happen. This model shares architecture with latest Kia Cadenza, which doesn’t support AWD.

2018 Hyundai Azera – Price

We have to wait a little longer until Hyundai makes up its mind of 2018 Hyundai Azera’s availability in the U.S. If that happens, the price won’t be much higher than current’s $34.000. If Azera doesn’t come, Hyundai might loose some of its buyers to Toyota Avalon, Kia Cadenza, Chevrolet Impala, and Nissan Maxima.
