Jaguar doesn’t intend to stop. The new Ingenium engine family has found its place under the hood of new XF, XE, and F-Pace. The new 4-cylinder banger will also be the base engine for 2018 Jaguar F-Type. With this update, F-type has a wide variety of powertrains available, thus answering all potential demands of buyers.
2018 Jaguar F-Type – New Base Engine
The first thing that we must mention that new base engine provides more horsepower and torque in F-Type than other vehicles that it was fitted in. The 2.0-liter turbo engine provides 296 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Just for reminder, that’s 56 horsepower and 44 lb-ft of torque than in XF and XE sedans. With this Jaguar broaden its F-Type configurations because the V6 and the V8 unit will also stay available. The V6 will continue to produce 340 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque from its 3.0-liter unit, but the new base engine will propel the F-type quicker. The reason behind this is that 4-cylinder engine comes with the new eight-speed automatic transmission, while the V6 comes with a six-speed manual.
However, for 2018 model year to pair the V6 with manual transmission, the buyer must opt for R-Dynamic trim. If not the V6 comes with automatic transmission as standard. But with the selected package the buyer also gets 20-inch gray wheels, gloss black trim, and body-color moldings.
2018 Jaguar F-Type – Exterior and Interior
Other than that there are also a few changes not related to the engine section. New LED headlights come as standard, while the designers also revised rear LED lights. On the inside, the occupants will get more space since 2018 Jaguar F-Type comes with slimmer seats, which also weigh less. But on the other hand, Jaguar did not jeopardize comfort. Also standard now comes the Jaguar’s next-generation Incontrol TouchPro infotainment system. One change is a downside because instead of 12-speaker Meridian sound system Jaguar installed less powerful 10-speaker one.
2018 Jaguar F-Type – Price
With new base engine also comes a lower price of Jaguar’s sports car. The F-Type coupe with 4-cylinder engine goes for $60.985, while the convertible starts at $63.995. With these updates, the new F-Type will certainly pose a bigger threat to Audi TT RS and Chevrolet Corvette.
