2018 Jaguar I-Pace Concept, All-Electric SUV

The future is already here. And we don’t mean that Jaguar will have an all-electric vehicle (those are common these days), but we talk about design. While most concepts are launched to see what reception will be like, 2018 Jaguar I-Pace concept is production ready all-electric SUV. That’s right, Jaguar’s first all-electric vehicle is just around the corner.

We can right away see that Jaguar is in question. We can see that flat nose grille. But with more futuristic DNA. Without regular combustion engine, this model has a shorter aerodynamic hood and sleeker windshield. While to truly maximize its aerodynamic efficiency there are also flush door handles. It is based on the same platform that Jaguar uses for F-Pace, but I-Pace rides on 4.6-inches longer wheelbase. It is 4 inches lower while 2 inches shorter. The body of the concept rides on big, 23-inch wheels, which won’t make it to the production model. But everything else will.

On the inside, one way to describe it is – screens. If the buyer is fond of current and future tech, then the interior is maybe the best place to look at new I-Pace. The center console holds two large infotainment screens positioned one below the other. While behind the multifunctional steering wheel, we have the largest digital instrument cluster accompanied with the full color heads-up display to view key information on the windshield. We can see that lower part of the center console is “floating” like we saw on Volvo Concept before. And with a longer wheelbase and no need for a combustion engine, there is ample of room for all five occupants. A top of that there is large panoramic sunroof to let through plenty of sunlight. Every piece of this luxury vehicle was made from highest quality materials as we could expect.

2018 Jaguar I-Pace Concept – Powertrain

I-Pace comes with not one, but two electric motors, one for each axle. They provide 200 horsepower each, so it’s not hard to do the math of combined output. Jaguar said that this 516 lb-ft of torque vehicle will be able to sprint from standstill to 60 mph in around four seconds. In the floor, there is a 90-kWh battery pack, and with a full charge, this luxury SUV will travel more than 220 miles before batteries run dry. For those who think that range isn’t something extraordinary when in mind that it holds a 90-kWh battery pack, it is. That is quite enough considering the weight and proportions of this SUV.
