Kia Rio isn’t as popular as it used to, but it’s holding up. Once one of the cheapest vehicles with a price tag under $10.000, when it arrived in the U.S. market, has grown over the years. The South Korean manufacturer won’t leave anything to the case since the fourth generation is just around the corner. Available in 5-door hatchback and sedan body styles with updated interior, exterior and technology, 2018 Kia Rio will certainly pose a bigger threat to Toyota Yaris, Honda Fit, Ford Fiesta, Hyundai Accent…
2018 Kia Rio – Design
The new model is bigger. It rides on the same but 0.4-inch longer wheelbase. With 101.6-inch long wheelbase, overall length has grown by 0.6 inches coming to as total of 106. This doesn’t seem much but with more upright cabin design, we expect more room. This is also complemented with more upright C-pillar which holds arrow-shaped rear lights that are available in LED. When it comes to design on front, there isn’t anything spectacularly new. But enough to keep Rio fresh. Tiger nose grille has been redesigned. Mesh pattern that was between the headlights on the upper part of the grille has moved downwards between the fog lights. When headlights are in question, they now include U-shaped LED lighting structure.
The 2018 Kia Rio can also have a sportier appearance. The buyer can opt for 17-inch alloy wheels with larger brakes, sport-tuned suspension, twin exhaust pipes and alloy sports pedals.
2018 Kia Rio – Interior
The right-away seen change in the interior is definitely the touchscreen. Unlike before, the standard 5-inch touchscreen has more upright, floating position. It comes with music integration and is used to display image from the rearview camera which comes standard. Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are optional. While at standard equipment, heated seats and heated steering wheel are also standard. The buyer can also opt for the larger 7-inch touchscreen which comes with UVO Smart ITself app. With this feature, the driver will stay connected with Rio. He will be able to remotely lock/unlock doors, start/stop the engine, and view vehicle stats. 2018 Kia Rio will feel even more spacious with the optional sunroof.
2018 Kia Rio – Engine
Although the info about possible engine choice is not yet available, the powertrain will probably remain 1.6-liter 4-cylinder one. We expect to see a small increase from today’s 138 horsepower and better fuel consumption. The only thing that Kia revealed is that the gearbox choices will remain. So there will be six-speed manual and six-speed automatic gearbox. Six-speed automatic can come with paddle shifters behind the steering wheel. There is one more novelty in 2018 Kia Rio. Kia now offers autonomous emergency braking system. While speaking of safety we hope that new Rio will do much better when it comes to crash test rating. The current generation didn’t do pretty well.
Pricing options will be available later this month.
