Third generation of Kia Sorento is present from 2015 to this day. A mid-size SUV by this South Korean carmaker debuted in 2002. Although current Sorento is only two years old, Kia is around the clock working on new model. What new is coming our way? Photographers managed to take a few shots of the testing mule in the snowy Sweden that will later be known as 2018 Kia Sorento.
2018 Kia Sorento – Design
With all that camouflage and snow around the car you can’t quite get the picture of facelifting that Kia has done to this model. But from the looks of it, it’s revised, sportier and resembles smaller Sportage and Niro models. In other words Kia emblem is positioned above the larger grille. Headlights for now are unchanged, while popular “ice cube” fog lights are found below. 2018 Kia Sorento will also have longer hood, wider wheel arches which will give it more muscular and aggressive look.
New Sorento looks a little longer, maybe it has a longer wheelbase, but it also could be that snow and camouflage are just playing trick with our eyes. Hood also looks redesigned and slightly longer, while rear view mirrors have gone through changes. Rear end is mystery since we can’t have a good look, but it’s possible that some changes took place to further beautify this model. Speaking of mystery, there is one more thing that we even can’t speculate about and that is Sorento’s interior. For now.
2018 Kia Sorento – New Engines?
One thing we have noticed is that this prototype has new codename. Carmakers usually don’t give facelift models a new codename. So in this case we can say that slightly redesign isn’t the only thing that new Sorento will get. We might expect new engines for 2018 Kia Sorento, but at this point, we can’t say for sure. Just for reminder Sorento is currently offered in five trims which are L, LX, EX, SX and Limited. You can get almost every possible combination of engines and transmissions for your Sorento so we can’t be certain what will new codename QM will give us. Testing mule that was caught has turbocharged four-cylinder 2.0-liter engine with six-speed automatic transmission that can be found in EX trim level.
