2018 Kia Soul EV Gets Bigger Range

Once manufacturers unveil their all-electric model, next step is increasing the range. When it arrived in 2014 Kia Soul EV came with a 93-mile range which was at that time quite enough. But now it just isn’t since there are rumors of new Chevrolet Bolt EV will have a 238-mile range. And that’s two and a half times more. But that doesn’t discourage Kia to take one step at a time. 2018 Kia Soul EV will come with minor usual styling tweaks and bigger battery pack.

2018 Kia Soul EV – Minor Tweaks

The regular Soul got some minor tweaks for 2017 model year, but the EV model didn’t. So 2018 Soul EV will undergo these changes. Those are new headlights and new rear lights. Regular Soul got redesigned air intakes, which, of course, aren’t needed in the EV. And that should be it, but some reports say that 2018 Kia Soul EV will also benefit from new exterior colors.

2018 Kia Soul EV – Bigger Batteries

That isn’t something that is the first priority for buyers of electric models. It’s the range. According to reports, 2018 Kia Soul EV will get a bigger battery pack. The 27-kWh battery pack will receive 3-kWh more. With a 30-kWh battery pack, the new range for Soul EV will be 112 miles. And that’s 20 miles more than current range. The electric motor won’t go through any mechanical updates, thus it will produce 109 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque.

2018 Kia Soul EV – Price

We already said that Bolt EV will go more than 200 miles per full charge, but it isn’t the only one. 2017 Hyundai Ioniq Electric already has a 128-mile range per full charge with even smaller battery pack, 28-kWh. In other words, Kia has much more work to do if it plans on ruining other carmakers day. 2018 Kia Soul EV will have slightly larger price than currents $32.250. But it will still be cheaper than Bolt EV, but still more expensive than Hyundai Ioniq Electric. But buyers must have in mind that Soul EV is a crossover SUV, unlike other mentioned models.
