We don’t need to be nuclear engineers to see why Kia Soul sits at top of subcompact crossover segment with 145.768 of sold units in 2016. The main reason is the price. With low price (we don’t think it can get any lower than this) of $16.100, it undercuts Mazda CX-3, Nissan Juke, Chevrolet Trax and Honda HR-V. Maybe, just maybe, the introduction of new Toyota CH-R will mix up the market, but we don’t think that Soul sales will start to drop. For 2017 model year Soul got some visual updates as well as a new engine option, so 2018 Kia Soul won’t go through any radical changes.

2018 Kia Soul – Same Design
Kia Soul received facelift a year ago, which carries new bumper, headlights, and fog lights. On the rear, it also received new bumper and rear lights. But color palette for base trim stayed the same with four exterior colors available, Clear White, Bright Silver, Alien 2, and Shadow Black. Since no exterior tweaks will make it in 2018 Kia Soul, there is a strong possibility for Kia to add some more color options to base trim to further enhance their crossover. Other than that everything else about exterior will stay the same. But those earlier updates will make it to 2018 Kia Soul EV which was unchanged for 2017 model year.

2018 Kia Soul – Interior
Kia also redesigned Soul’s interior a year ago, so for 2018 model year, we don’t expect any updates. So we won’t waste any time reviewing those changes. But we must mention that Soul received completely redesigned dashboard which isn’t protruding forward with chrome outlining the gear lever and added Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, while sunroof remained as an option.
2018 Kia Soul – Engine Options
More important however is that Soul got new engine option. And yes, it was earlier so, for 2018 model year, there will also be no changes in the engine compartment. And why even should, since it’s all there. We have a base 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine with 130 horsepower. It comes with six-speed gearbox either manual or automatic. Further, we have 2.0-liter also 4-cylinder one with 161 horsepower which has only one gearbox, six-speed automatic. But Kia added a turbocharger to its 1.6-liter engine. With this modification, the base engine has an output of 201 horsepower and it also comes with the new transmission, seven-speed dual clutch automatic. Of course, the downside of that turbo engine is that manual should really be an option.
Therefore, we see why sales are rising from year to year, and there is no reason for them to drop anytime soon. There might be one flaw if we may say so. Kia Soul doesn’t offer AWD at all, and the torque only goes to front wheels. And while there were rumors that 2018 Kia Soul will receive this option, that won’t be the case.

2018 Kia Soul – Safety
Kia Soul also enjoys highest ratings in crash tests. With all results “G” (good). But Kia lacks some advanced safety systems. It has optional forward collision warning, but it lacks automatic emergency braking. Of course, with more safety systems, Soul wouldn’t be the cheapest SUV on the market.
2018 Kia Soul – Price
While speaking of price, there isn’t any reason for the price to increase. So we can surely say that 2018 Kia Soul will remain around $16.000 mark. With all this in mind, there isn’t a good reason to wait for 2018 model year. Except, of course, for the discounts of current one when new takes its place.
