2018 Land Rover Defender

From where comes the need to replace Land Rover Defender, legendary off-roader? The British icon hasn’t been redesigned for 30 years, but it’s not just about appealing or more luxurious look, there is another connection. The thing is that Defender didn’t meet U.S. safety requirements since 1998. Since then Land Rover offered U.S. customers the more luxurious Freelander and Discovery instead. So the need for replacement has been brought by end 2015 cause of the fact that Defender didn’t meet new European regulations regarding crash safety for pedestrians. Cause of that design of this vehicle became obsolete and new 2018 Land Rover Defender will take its place.

2018 Land Rover Defender – Completely New Design

So what will new design of Defender look like and will it make a comeback in the U.S. market? Probably yes. At the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show two concept vehicles were introduced, DC100 and DC100 Sport. According to Land Rover design director Gerry McGovern it will bear little resemblance to the DC100. But let’s first say that next generation Defender will have multiple body configurations making it more user-friendly. Those will include wagons, pickups and convertibles. The main thing they want to achieve is utilization for every segment. The Army, farm operations as well as luxury ride, all of that with one vehicle.

So, for the design we mentioned earlier, ancient cardboard design will be ditched in favor of more futuristic look which all automotive manufacturers are now implementing. In other words 2018 Land Rover Defender sill have more curves on the body making it more appealing. In addition strength and rigidity will remain the same. Platform will probably be aluminum-intensive unibody taken from DC100 concept that is exactly 100 inch long which is, but for now there is no confirmation from the company.
