From year to year popularity of Lexus NX is on the constant rise. When it was unveiled it was for certain that this model will be a success, but no one knew that it would leave the likes of BMW X1, Audi Q3, and Mercedes-Benz GLA-class. Not to mention the Infiniti QX30 and Lincoln MKC which are far behind. Lexus won’t leave anything to the chance. Even with just two years old, this small SUV will get a makeover. It’s not just a redesign of 2018 Lexus NX in question, but also some mechanical changes.
2018 Lexus NX – Redesign
The first thing we can notice is that grille is mostly unchanged. The hourglass-shaped mesh (what we like to call it) will stay along sharply creased headlights. The only difference on the front for 2018 model year are new air intakes. The wheel design is also new, while the rear end carries redesigned bumper and slightly thinner rear lights. That is pretty much it for the exterior changes. One more thing is that Lexus also added hands-free power lift gate.
2018 Lexus NX – Subtle Interior Changes
On the inside, there are more subtle changes. Only with a closer look, we can see that this luxury SUV comes with metallic finish for several knobs and buttons, while controls for heating, ventilating and air-condition have also been revised. More changes are in the middle of the dashboard where now buyers can opt for larger, 10.3-inch display screen. It is controlled with the revised touchpad.
2018 Lexus NX – Same Powertrains
But under the hood section remains the same. The base NX comes with 2.0-liter turbo 4-cylinder engine which produces 235 horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque. This engine sends torque to front wheels as standard through the six-speed automatic transmission. The AWD is also available for $1.400 extra. Even with the selection of the F Sport package, the buyer doesn’t get more power, rather some enhanced design tweaks, and tuned the suspension. EPA estimates for FWD is 25 mpg combined, and for AWD the number is 24.
The NX also comes with a hybrid powertrain. But it uses a different engine. The electric motor works with 2.5-liter gasoline engine for a total output of 195 horsepower. This model comes with AWD, CVT and EPA estimates of 31 mpg combined. The only mechanical updates for new NX come with revised and retuned suspension for smoother ride. But Lexus also adds adaptive bumpers, which probably won’t come standard.
2018 Lexus NX – Safety
Just for reminder, the 2017 model year NX received Top Safety Pick+ award from the IIHS, including all “G” (good) scores in crash tests, and scoring “A” (Acceptable) rating for headlight visibility. In other words, there is no doubt that 2018 NX will receive the highest marks in safety.
2018 Lexus NX – Price
These aren’t major upgrades, so we probably won’t see much higher price than currents $36.260. New luxury SUV will arrive at dealerships later this year.
