Although Mazda 6 is not in the big leagues yet when it comes to sales figures in the US, they are constantly raising from 2013 and onward. That’s the year they released the third generation of this saloon, and when you look at it, it doesn’t take a genius to realize why are sales growing. With beautiful design, excellent interior and innovative Skyactive drivetrains they raised the level for other car manufacturers. And after six years next generation should be unveiled. Well, wrong. Mazda really did their job on the third generation and the new one is not near. So 2018 Mazda 6 will receive only small cosmetic and technical updates.

2018 Mazda 6 – Redesign
Somewhat larger updates were done for 2017 model, even though they can’t be seen for 2017 model year. Mazda introduced G-vectoring control. This unit improves handling in difficult situations. Also, it reduces understeer common for all front-wheel drive models. So with updates for 2017 model year, what are the changes on 2018 Mazda 6? We already said that nothing major is going on, but changes might include headlights, rear lights, and bumpers. With premium upholstery materials added for 2017, probably nothing will be changed in the interior. Upgrades were done to the steering wheel that received heating option. Also, a full-color TFT screen replaced instrument cluster. The only exception might be that 2018 Mazda 6 could get an upgrade on infotainment system.

2018 Mazda 6 – Engine
When it comes to power for 2018 Mazda 6, they are likely to remain the same. So, for the US market, it’s the inline 4-cylinder SkyActive-G 2.5-liter gasoline engine. It produces 184 horsepower. When it comes to fuel economy it’s great. You get 36mpg on the highway with six-speed automatic. While we’re speaking about the gearbox, six-speed automatic and manual will remain. All these figures are great, but a saloon of this size could really benefit from a V6. Diesel option still won’t be available at least for this generation. They finally abandoned that since it was two times postponed due to emission issue.
Mazda 6 also did a good job on the raising its safety level. The third generation of this vehicle received Top Safety Pick+ awards throughout every year it is present. So when it comes to safety ratings, we expect only the highest marks.

2018 Mazda 6 – Price
Although major updates were done for 2017, the price hasn’t gone up. So that will be the case with 2018 Mazda 6, and it will be available for around $23.000. Debut should be in the second half of 2017. But with nothing major improved it really isn’t worth waiting the 2018 year model. Some of its competitors are Chevrolet Malibu, Honda Accord, and Toyota Camry. With all took into consideration this Japanese manufacturer will reveal fourth generation Mazda 6 probably for 2019 model year. If you’re not in a hurry, just sit tight and wait.
