It’s no longer a secret; Porsche announces that new 2018 Porsche Cayenne is coming to market in late 2017 or early 2018. But they aren’t revealing anything else. By the look of handful photos on the internet that spread like a virus, we can tell that third generation of this model isn’t bringing much change in design. It looks practically same as the current model, but there is still time for possible improvement since this is a prototype.
2018 Porsche Cayenne – Small Exterior Redesign
Last facelift done in the 2015 brought some changes that boosted sales and demand of this VW Group luxury SUV. But all we can tell about 2018 Porsche Cayenne by the outer looks is one novelty. In the back is a built-in flap where the roof-mounted spoiler is mounted that opens at certain speed. Although no one complains about good drivability of the current model, this is major leap that leads in fluent aerodynamics, stability as well all-around driving experience. Another important change that will add to performance although bad performance wasn’t an issue is a lighter body. Like the Bentley Bentayga and Audi Q7, 2018 Porsche Cayenne will be built on MLB platform, thus reducing overall weight 330-440 pounds. This is another breakthrough in reducing vehicle weight since the current one is already lighter 550 pounds than its predecessor in 2002.
2018 Porsche Cayenne – Interior
Interior might go through more radical changes. Since the current dashboard looks like an airplane cockpit, 2018 Porsche Cayenne will receive bigger high-resolution touchscreen. It will result in far less buttons which will be transferred to infotainment system. Inside vents could be slightly redesigned but for know there isn’t much on design of interior.
2018 Porsche Cayenne – Same Drivetrains
There will be no added new drivetrain options since Cayenne took an update recently. The U.S. market isn’t fancy about diesel engines (Cayenne will have at least one), but there are multiple petrol ones to accommodate every demanding customer. On top of that hybrid drivetrain is available too.
Current 3.6-liter V6 produces 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. It needs 7.3 seconds for 60 mph mark, and top speed of 142 mph. This numbers must be better if you take in account that 2018 Porsche Cayenne will have MLB platform. Cayenne S uses same engine but with more power. With 420 horsepower sprint to 60 mph is reduced by 2 seconds while top speed increases by 20 mph. With Cayenne GTS and 440 horsepower has somewhat better number while Cayenne Turbo is another story. It is powered by 4.8-liter V8 and with 520 horsepower it reaches 60 mph mark in just 4.2 seconds while maxed out speed is 173 mph.
2018 Porsche Cayenne – Price And Release Date
It’s too early for pricing for this model, but we can always speculate. Current base model goes from $58.300 all the way to $157.300. But with new platform and some changes price will probably go up. We can just wait till end of 2017 and see is there anything else that 2018 Porsche Cayenne will bring to the table.
