2018 Subaru Crosstrek Review, Price

For those who want performance vehicle, shouldn’t be on this page, look somewhere else. But for those who want all commuter that drives and handles well, 2018 Subaru Crosstrek is an almost obvious choice. It’s not that only Subaru got rid of the XV of the name. It is all-new crossover SUV. But due to higher and higher sale numbers, Subaru didn’t try to rock the solid foundation. New Crosstrek isn’t radical departure, but nevertheless, it’s nice refreshment.

2018 Subaru Crosstrek – New Wheelbase

New Crosstrek rides on a new wheelbase that is 1.2 inches longer. Although dimensions are roughly the same. It’s heavily based on Impreza Wagon but there are many differences so it shouldn’t be confused with a smaller sibling. Apart from similar exterior style and sharper creases, Crosstrek comes with black cladding above the wheel arches, and around front fascia and tail. To further help distinguish the two, crossover not surprisingly has much higher ride height. New Crosstrek will continue to be available in three trim levels, base, Premium, and Limited. Wheels aren’t that customizable when it comes to new Crosstrek. The only ones available on base and Premium are 17-inch wheels while with a selection of Limited, this crossover will ride on 18-inch wheels. Both come with all-season tires.

The base trim comes with cloth upholstery, Halogen headlights, rearview camera, analog speedometer and tachometer and 2.4-inch digital instrument cluster and 6.5-inch infotainment system. Moving up to Premium, there is power driver seat, heated mirrors seats and windshield, automatic headlights, and Starlink connectivity with the 4LTE antenna. The top offer, Limited comes with 4.2-inch instead of 2.4-inch LCD display, 8-inch touchscreen, LED headlights, leather seating, while there’s also optional 8-speaker Harman Kardon audio system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across all trims.

2018 Subaru Crosstrek – One Engine

Nevertheless which trim the buyer chooses there is only one engine available. It is 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder Boxer engine with 152 horsepower and 142 lb-ft of torque. Subaru said that around 80% of the engine is new, but they managed to get only 4 extra horsepower than the last model. Limited buyers can forget about three pedals as it only comes with CVT with seven ratios. The CVT is also optional on base and Premium while a six-speed manual is standard. The engine sends torque to all four wheels. No other drive layout is available.

Subarus safety suite called EyeSight Driver Assist technology consists of adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist with lane departure and sway warning. It is available on highest two trims, Premium and Limited. The highest trim’s only notable features that come as standard are blind-spot detection, and rear cross traffic alert. Although this is a new vehicle we can rightfully be peaceful that will ace all of the crash tests that IIHS will put in front of it. That is if we look at the previous ratings.

Base Crosstrek starts at $21.795, Premium at 22.595, while Limited goes for $26.295. Also new model lies in the highly competitive segment. Just some of its rivals are Kia Soul, Mazda CX-3, Jeep Renegade, Toyota C-HR, Nissan Rogue Sport, and Juke. But with all taken into consideration, 2018 Subaru Crosstrek will follow the success of the previous ones, and we can expect that in 2018 Crosstrek will finally reach 100.000 sales mark per year.
