When you wanted a sport compact in the early 2000’s you would go for Honda hatchback with more engine mods that would boost the potential. Well it was nice, but little after that good news came from another Japanese manufacturer. Subaru released Impreza-based WRX model in 1992 in the U.S. including all wheel drive, stiffened suspensions and turbocharged four cylinder engines. Not long after they released even more powerful STI version and from that point it led this segment in new direction. With the release of the fifth-generation Impreza at the 2016 New York International Auto Show, we can expect 2018 Subaru WRX STI in possible late 2017. So what it will look like?

2018 Subaru WRX STI – Redesign
Five-door STI was huge success in the U.S. and fifth-generation of Subaru sport sedan will likely be offered in the same body type. What can we say about changes in design for this model, since we already think it looks great. But there are little upgrades that Subaru is hoping will even more beautify this model. Well we hope they’re right. Front grille of 2018 Subaru WRX STI will look the same but underneath black mash pink STI logo will be found. Pink? Well, ok. In the lower intake glossy mash is also used and slightly lowered front spoiler will bring car’s nose closer to the ground. Fenders are wider giving 2018 Subaru WRX STI -even more racing look, while silver STI mark can be found on the door gap.
The rear bumper looks a bit boxy, but with iconic massive wing on the trunk gives STI recognizable look from the back. The color that will be used is traditional World Rally Blue and all will be complete with gold 18-inch wheels. And yes, it looks great. New STI will have slightly more dimensions adding to comfort as well more rigidity of the body. Did we mention that it will be much more lighter, thus improving all-around performance?

2018 Subaru WRX STI – Interior
You should expect little more space inside of the cabin, especially in the rear seats. High-quality materials will be used on 2018 Subaru WRX STI to improve inside look and make it more premium. On the dash we can expect that Subaru will keep up with more rising trend of large touchscreen implemented, possibly eight- inch. Subaru’s Starlink infotainment system will be found on it with all the usual features and connectivity options you’d expect. Navigation and satellite radio amongst others will be available. Console is well oriented towards the driver. And we all know that diver gets most enjoyment from just being behind the wheel. While speaking about the steering wheel, it will be covered in leather as well as emergency break and shift knob. What would 2018 Subaru WRX STI be without sport pedals with rubber inserts for better grip.

2018 Subaru WRX STI – Possible Hybrid
In 2004 STI had 2.5-liter turbo-flat four engine with 300 horsepower. Over the years it had it improved, but after twelve years it’s practically the same engine. So we are really rooting for a new one for 2018 Subaru WRX STI. There were rumors about hybrid version of STI for better numbers in fuel consumption. Some say that Subaru will likely take a hybrid path. In Japan you already have Impreza Sport Hybrid that combines 2.0-liter engine, electric motor and CVT with all together output of 160 horsepower and 48 mpg. Australian publication Motoring sad in the December that was hard working on hybrid that provides 322 horsepower and 35 mpg.
Well on the other side, others say that by the words in the interview of CEO Yasuyuki Yoshinaga they won’t make a hybrid 2018 Subaru WRX STI. And really when you come to think of it, who would by STI with a major concern about fuel economy? Better option for STI will probably be AWD, 2.5-liter engine with around 400 horsepower. Well, who knows what will Subaru have in store for us. But more info will surely come soon considering this topic.
2018 Subaru WRX STI – Release Date
Another major thing that will probably be different for 2018 Subaru WRX STI is the price. Over the years price was going higher from $30.000 to $35.000. And now with updated looks, more lighter and rigid platform therefore improved handling and possible more powerful hybrid drivetrain, number on the price tag we expect to be is around $40.000. Release date will probably late 2017.
