2018 Toyota 86 Brings Interior Updates

Besides Subaru BRZ, there is a sibling called Toyota 86. And while the name Toyota 86 is relatively new (August 2016) it existed from 2012 as Scion FR-S. In other words, 2018 Toyota 86 is probably the last one of its generation, because the new one is expected for 2019 model year. And this is the only affordable sports car from the Japanese brand. For 2017 model year Toyota offers 860 Special Edition model, and that was the second trim available for this vehicle. It came with unique exterior details such as stripes and rear wing giving it a more aggressive look. The inside brought some new features, but what can we expect for 2018 model year.

2018 Toyota 86 – Possible Updates

Considering it might be the last model of a current generation, it will get some notable upgrades. The exterior however probably won’t receive any mentionable updates. 2018 Toyota 86 might receive some new exterior colors, while some could get deleted. But, other than that as far as the exterior is concerned, probably nothing. But as for the interior, the driver might get a new multi-information display like in its twin brother Subaru BRZ. This sports coupe could also get some comfort features, like heated seats and automatic climate control. But we don’t expect that new 86 will receive new multimedia interface. For a little while, the buyer must satisfy with the Pioneer-based unit. It will stay until new generation arrives.

2018 Toyota 86 – Same Engine

There, however, won’t be any changes under the hood. 2018 Toyota 86 will continue to use the 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder engine. It produces 205 horsepower and 156 lb-ft of torque. This isn’t surprising since the 860 Special Edition has the same engine. There are two gearboxes available, both six-speed, so the buyer can have either manual or automatic. But with the optional automatic, the output drops by 5 horsepower and 5 lb-ft of torque. The output goes only to rear wheels as it should be in a sports car.

With little updates, we don’t think that the price will change. The current starting price is $27.140. Most mentionable rival of Toyota 86 is definitely Mazda MX-5 Miata.
