2018 Toyota Yaris iA Updates

Things started to be a little awkward. Toyota’s Yaris iA name is a job for CSI character Horatio Caine. But with a little of our own digging, we put all the clues together. With Scion gone, iA got Toyota emblem. The name Yaris points out that Yaris iA has some correlation with it, but it doesn’t. Toyota Yaris iA is practically Mazda 2 (which is no longer sold in the U.S.) under disguise in sedan form. It was rebadged for 2017 model year. We already covered what will regular (and the only true Yaris get for 2018 model year), but what will 2018 Toyota Yaris iA bring new?

2018 Toyota Yaris iA – Exterior Changes

Even without official information about changes for 2018 model year, it’s safe to assume that the only enchantments of the exterior are new colors in the palette. Other than that, the exterior remains unchanged. Yaris iA could easily be mistaken for Mazda 3 but with its high stance and slab sides gives it little dorky proportions. Although it isn’t exactly a beauty, with low price tag, we mustn’t complain too much about the exterior.

2018 Toyota Yaris iA – Interior

The interior is another story. Although for 2018 model year, the cabin will possibly remain unchanged, that quite frankly isn’t a problem. With the high-quality feel of the plastics and cloth upholstery, the occupants will feel like in more value car. Seats are comfortable, but due to its size, rear legroom is a little crampy. But also due to its size headroom is plenty. The center console holds 7-inch touchscreen. There is, however, lack of optional packages and only one trim, which will probably arrive for 2018 model year. But even that isn’t the downside since the standard equipment is plentiful. Base (and only) trim comes with keyless entry, Bluetooth, rearview camera, and cruise control. Every Yaris iA even comes with forward collision warning, which comes standard on all models from some premium vehicles like Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, etc.

2018 Toyota Yaris iA – More Safety Features

Another update that will probably take place is the addition of more safety features since Toyota’s lineup is slowly getting more and more. But at this moment it is unknown whether will those be in optional packages or in some trim levels that Toyota might add. For now, safety level is on the highest, iA got “G” (good) scores on every crash test available, therefore a Top Safety Pick award.

2018 Toyota Yaris iA – Powertrain

There won’t be any change in the engine compartment. 2018 Toyota Yaris iA will continue to use a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine which produces 106 horsepower and 103 lb-ft of torque. There are also two six-speed gearboxes either manual or automatic, same as in Toyota 86. The only drive layout will remain FWD. With this amount of output, Yaris iA certainly can’t be quick. Acceleration from 0-60 mph is achieved in 8.7 seconds, while the fuel economy is estimated 34 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway.

2018 Toyota Yaris iA – Price

It will remain to be in offer only in sedan form since the introduction of a hatchback would cannibalize Yaris. There shouldn’t be too much correction of the price, and the price tag of the current Yaris iA is $16.825. Other vehicles that pose a threat to this sedan are Ford Fiesta, Honda Fit, Hyundai Accent, and Kia Rio.
