The entry level of Audis lineup, the A3 isn’t getting much praise in the U.S. The fact that people are constantly moving to SUV segment also isn’t helping. A3 accounts around 15% of whole Audi sales in 2016. That number could get up, as well as overall sale number. To do that Audi will step up the game with next-generation A3. And the word is that 2019 Audi A3 will bring much more than we could expect.
2019 Audi A3 – New Architecture
Well not so much in term of the styling, as the new A3 will closely follow design path of the bigger A4. The 3-door A3 wasn’t available in the U.S. market, but the rumor is that this body style will be completely sacked for the entire market. This is because there just isn’t enough demand for this model as some journalist claim that it’s part of “a model consolidation program instigated as part of the cost-cutting initiatives” from Volkswagen. Another novelty is that new A3 will come on new VW’s MQB platform. This will give the new A3 more room on the inside, the possibility of alternative powertrains and it should lose a few pounds.
2019 Audi A3 – Interior
We don’t expect the dashboard design to be radically different from the A4. Aside design, the new A3 will also take some of the advanced techs from its bigger sibling. The first thing is that Audi’s Virtual Cockpit should be available across the whole lineup. As well as WiFi hotspots and wireless smartphone charging. There are even some rumors that go in direction of new A3 having the same autonomous technology that we have in new A8. We’ll have to wait for some official info from Audi for this one though. Important thing is that thanks to new platform rear seat passengers will surely have more leg room.
2019 Audi A3 – Powertrains
Apart from the regular diesel and gasoline engines with three or four cylinders in the Europe, we won’t see any diesel or three cylinder ones in the U.S. But the MQB platform won’t just get weight reduction. As some sources claim, the Audi will bring mild hybrid models with the new A3 with company’s new 48-volt electric system. The new A3 will probably also remain with either six-speed or seven-speed transmission and either FWD or AWD.
2019 Audi A3 – Release Date
We should see the first next-generation A3 in the beginning of 2019. As for the price, we don’t think it will remain as it is for the current one. Even if we don’t see some of the advanced expectations, the price will surely go slightly up.
