It looks like the Germans never sleep. The photos that we present here prove just that. Audi is already working hard on the next generation A6. The current generation is on the roads from 2011 and it got one facelift in 2015. But it’s time after eight years that this luxury sedan gets a decent successor. And what can we tell by the spy photos of 2019 Audi A6?
2019 Audi A6 – Design
The first thing even with the curly camouflage we see is that it is based on the Audi’s Prologue Concept. New A6 will come with wide imposing grille with horizontal bars, as well as sharp creases and matching headlights. We can also see the lighting unit on the rear end, but it’s important to say that rear lights will be significantly different from what we can see now, but their shape will remain the same. We can also see the roofline coming much more sloped toward the rear end which is unusual since we’re not talking about S6 here.
2019 Audi A6 – New Platform
Apart some of the design tweaks, more important to say is that new A6 will surely benefit from new MLB platform. One thing is for sure weight reduction. We don’t expect some unreasonable figures, but the current A6 even with aluminum in its construction already weighs over 4.000 pounds. This platform will surely be of benefit to rear seat passengers since it will bring more legroom. But most importantly, this architecture allows for various powertrains to be installed as well as a hybrid option.
2019 Audi A6 – Engines
As for those, the base should be 2.0-liter turbo inline 4-cylinder engine with 252 horsepower. Moving up the ladder should be a 3.0-liter turbo V6. For those who don’t know, the plug0in hybrid A6 already exists but only for China market. We think that in the near future, that won’t be the case and we’ll see hybrid A6 on our shores as well. Mentioned hybrid consists of an inline 4-cylinder engine and an electric motor for a total output of 245 horsepower.
However, there is another version of the 6 series that isn’t available in the U.S. and that is the sport-oriented RS6. This model should stick with 4.0-liter twin turbo V8, which produces 605 horsepower, but at this moment we don’t know will this sports sedan come to U.S. As for the S6, it might get a 2.9-liter V6 instead of current 3.0-liter V8. But we’ll just have to wait and see.
2019 Audi A6 – Self-driving Tech
There is also a possibility that new A6 comes with Level 3 self-driving capability. The thing is that Audi promised that for all upcoming vehicles. This exactly means that the car will be able to do everything by itself up to a speed of 37 mph, including driving in heavy traffic as well as parking on its own.
