2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS-class with Inline 6

There aren’t many four-door coupes, but when it comes to them, Mercedes-Benz CLS-class is one of the most mentionable ones. For 2018 model year changes and brand new engines could be found on GLA-class, S-class, C-class and E-class. They received either new engine lineup or vast interior updates. But new generation CLS-class is due one year later. The CLS is basically E-class wrapped in the sleeker body. And while speaking of wrapping Germans wrapped the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS-class and took it for a spin.

Even with swirly camouflage, we can see that there aren’t any radical changes. But on the front, there are thinner headlights while the hood slopes in the flatter nose. New CLS-class will sit on Mercedes’ MRA platform which also underpins the E-class. While we already have the E-class coupe, the CLS-class looks like stretched version of it. And the thing is, it is wider and longer. This platform can also hold 4, 6, and 8 cylinder engines.

2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS-class – New Inline 6

While speaking of cylinders, although not yet confirmed by the Mercedes, the base engine in this coupe should be brand new engine. We know that Mercedes is going back to its roots of placing inline cylinder engines with newly developed inline 6. It will have the same volume as previous, it’s a 3.0-liter, but current V6 produces 329 horsepower, while new inline 6 turbo should come with over 408 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. That makes the 402 horsepower, 4.7-liter V8 obsolete found in the current CLS550. The platform can also accommodate hybrid version, and there’s a strong possibility of filling a gap with hybrid CLS instead of CLS550. The Mercedes-AMG also sacked the 5.5-liter V8, so in AMG-powered CLS we could also find new 4.0-liter V8 with 603 horsepower. Nine-speed automatic should stay, as well as RWD and AWD (4MATIC) layouts.

The interior is no mystery. Not because there are images to prove it because we knew that new CLS will follow the design of the new E-class. Meaning the centerpiece is dominated with four round air vents. But unlike some other models, new luxury coupe won’t have two dual 12.3-inch displays. There is one however for the Mercedes’ COMAND infotainment system, but standard gauge instrument cluster will remain. When it comes to comfort, there aren’t any issues, except one. The seating layout will remain 2+2, meaning that CLS isn’t just that practical.

2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS-class – Release Date

While we can’t say for certain when exactly will new 2019 CLS arrive, we think that it won’t be before the end of 2018. The exact price is of course still a mystery, but we don’t think it will stray off too much from currents $68.000.
