Volvo wants to enter another market niche where it has never competed before. And while the debut of 2019 Volvo XC40 will be on 21st September we can be lucky that sometimes employees make a mistake. That’s what happened in Volvo Hungary where they accidentally released videos and pictures revealing all glory of this compact SUV. On the other hand, there wasn’t much to hide.
2019 Volvo XC40 – Design
Completely new Volvo model is heavily based on the Volvo 40.1 Concept revealed earlier. The most notable and reasonable change is the appearance of more conventional door handles and side mirrors. The vehicle will come on Volvo’s CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) platform. It will also underpin all future models from the 40 series. While this SUV will be more interesting to the younger audience, Volvo aimed for the most colorful model. In other words, it will offer more customizable exterior and interior. The color palette will have much wider range of colors to choose than other models from the Volvo lineup.
2019 Volvo XC40 – Interior
On the inside, there will also be more selectable two tone interiors. Since this is Volvo’s smallest SUV, the main effort designers took in direction of offering plenty of space and compartments for everyday accessories making it vastly practical and functional. They even removed speakers from the doors elsewhere to achieve compartment big enough for a laptop. Maybe this is best described by words of Volvo’s senior design manager, Conny Blommé: “We wanted the cup holders to be used as cup holders. They’re not for storage, for rubbish, cards or cables. So we decided to make space for these items as well”. Besides that, Volvo also aimed at the clutter-free instrument cluster. Also, the feel from its bigger siblings the XC60 and XC90 are there. Big touchscreen dominates simplified center console.
2019 Volvo XC40 – Engine
Volvo still hasn’t announced the complete list of engines for their new luxury vehicle. But they said that the company’s brand new 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbo engine will be one of the options. There will also be “Twin Engine” plug-in hybrid, combining previously mentioned engine paired with an electric motor. That can’t be surprising since Volvo said that in the next couple of years all their models will be either hybrid or electric. For shifting gears, the seven-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox will do the job. Like any other Volvo, it is normal that it comes with plenty of active and passive safety features as standard. It will also offer semi-autonomous Pilot Assist System.
2019 Volvo XC40 – Release Date
The price is not yet announced, but when the new Volvo model hits the market it will be a direct competitor to BMW X2 and Audi Q2. The release date like we already said is 21st September.
